Glen Davis says characteristic dumb comments; I assume he wants to leave Boston

If Glen Davis returns to the Boston Celtics next season, I will:
- pledge my support to the New York Yankees now and forever
- go for a 20-mile run on gravel, barefoot
- eat green beans and only green beans from this day forward, and…
- call the police to turn myself in for a crime I did not commit.
Davis’s ignorant comments yesterday (combined with his dismal final three months of the season) bought The Ticket Stub a one-way ticket out of Boston. To recap Davis’s remarks, he said (in different words) that A) the Celtics hindered his play last season, B) he doesn’t really stay in touch with Doc Rivers or Danny Ainge, C) Doc talks a lot, but Davis tries not to pay attention, and D) Glen wants to be Glen, and Glen wants to go somewhere Glen Davis can be Glen Davis. He used the third person approximately one zillion times, made himself look like an ass repeatedly, and did not once act as if he wanted to stay in Boston.
If his post-All Star break play did not manage to accomplish the feat, Davis has now officially worn out his welcome in Boston. He did so by again revealing the same immaturity that marred his entire four-year stint in Title Town. Once, Davis broke his thumb by punching a friend in the face, which was bad enough. That his friend was driving a car at the time made it even worse. Once, Davis told a spectator to suck his man-parts. Once, Davis started beef with Doc Rivers on the very first day of training camp. Davis’s NBA career has been stained by childish acts, and he will leave Boston the same way he arrived: as a talented but flawed player who thinks too highly of himself and failed to grasp the meaning of being a professional.
On the first day I covered a Celtics game with press credentials, I waltzed wide-eyed into Boston’s locker room to interview my heroes. My idol reporters and columnists—Bob Ryan, for one—stood in the center of the room, like vultures ready to approach and chat with any Celtic who made himself available for conversation. Ray Allen strolled in as if carried by the wind and answered questions in a business-like manner, but still put thought into every answer. Kevin Garnett, though he would not play in the game due to injury, walked through without saying a word to anybody. And then, about 55 minutes before the game began, Davis bounced into the locker room, screaming nonsense (mostly calling himself a beast) and eating a cheeseburger with french fries. He and Rasheed Wallace cracked a few jokes, displaying good comedic chemistry, and then the reporters were forced out of the locker room.
I had two thoughts at the time: 1) I didn’t know these guys were so damn funny, and 2) OF COURSE Glen Davis would eat a cheeseburger 55 minutes before a game. I didn’t initially read too much into the scene. But in retrospect, it probably explained a lot. Ray considers basketball his full-time job and treated it as such. KG had his game face on, even though he wasn’t even playing. Davis ate fried food and joked around with Sheed.
Maybe now is the time Glen Davis should stop acting like Glen Davis.

paul…exactly why I want Davis packaged with the 25th pick and used to move up. This seals it for me. His ego is on steroids and as I said in an earlier post; he has a donut for a brain. It’s all about Davis pride not Celtic pride with him. See ya. Go Cs…sign and move him as to his wishes!!!

Yeah, I think you guys should be ashamed of yourselves. This is nothing but scapegoating, and it’s sports fandom at it’s most heinous. I mean, it’s not as bad as torching cars, of course, but it’s a milder version of the same mentality. You all are just casting around for someone to blame for what happened last year and you desperately DON’T WANT TO BLAME DANNY.
Folks REALLY REALLY REALLY need to stop hyperventilating over every ill-considered thing Davis says. And Jay, comparing him to Ray Allen doesn’t tell us anything we don’t already know, now does it? Allen is one of the most put together guys in the league, is he not? And Davis may well be one of the least solidly put together. So that’s why he’s not a starter, which he surely has the talent to be. Most players don’t make the most of their talent. Look at Jeff Green. Odds are that kid will never be anything more than a pretty good scorer.
But what he IS you all choose to continue to ignore, but you having so darn much fun ripping the Fat Boy. He’s been a reliable bench guy, a versatile Big, and even a spot starter. A lot of people disappointed us over the last several months, from Ainge on down through the whole team. The only player who really didn’t was Delonte.
Don’t get me wrong: I won’t be at all surprised if Danny unloads Davis. He already showed with Perkins what a resentful and small-minded person he can be if he feels a player isn’t ‘grateful’ enough. I wouldn’t be at all shocked if Danny unloaded Rondo, in fact. But it’s all just scapegoating, whether Danny does it or fans do it.
The delight you are all taking in the idea of sending off a solid Big, when what we desperately need is Bigs, is just such a clear demonstration that there is no rationality to all this Baby Hate.

paul…How dare you compare me to some ass that torches cars. FU. I have been more than clear about the cause of the Cs’ loss in the playoffs but after every recent post of mine you begin with the scapegoating comments. Ergo, I have to believe they are specifically directed at me, as you certainly have said so directly in other recent posts. How about actually reading my posts and understand my position before lumping me in with f’in psychopaths that think it’s fun to destroy property???
As for Davis his game went BACKWARDS or don’t you get that (and if I could I would bold and use a 36 font for the word – backwards)? If you’re just looking at his stats then it appears he made monumental progress last season. But if you watched the games or listened to them all as I did then you would know that he hurt the Cs and their drive to another title. Davis has played with 4 HOFs and several all-stars and is STILL a major head-case, whereas Smith has played with mid-level talent and never with more than 2 all-stars. If you don’t think that matters then your comments are worthless. And even more so if you don’t think what players say means anything. How about Davis saying he let the team down? How about Davis saying he got off his game and intends to be the role player that accepts his opportunity? Nope, he instead talks selfishly about his skills, what he thinks he’s worth, and a desire to be elsewhere where he can “be the man”. Well f*** Davis. For someone that sings about Celtic pride all the time you sure are hypocritical at times. Go Cs…dump the fat tub o’lard and don’t offer him anything but the door. My position has changed because paul says I am “scapegoating” so now I am!!!! Now that’s “Baby Hate”.
