Report: Celtics, Hawks have had no discussions involving Josh Smith

A Yahoo! report from yesterday indicated that the Boston Celtics are on Josh Smith’s short list of preferred trade destinations. But the Celtics and Hawks have reportedly not discussed any potential deal, nor do the two teams plan to in the near future. (CSNNE)

A league source told CSNNE.com on Monday night that the Celtics have had “no discussions whatsoever” with the Atlanta Hawks about acquiring Smith. The same source added there were no plans to open up such dialogue any time in the near future.

“You can never say never,” the source said, “but there’s nothing going on there.”

Though the trade seems unlikely at best, A. Sherrod Blakely mentions Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen as potential trade bait. The Yahoo! report mentioned that the Hawks would look for veteran players near the end of their contracts and that Hawks GM Rick Sund covets both Garnett and Allen. Even so, trading either player would constitute a very bold move from Danny Ainge (who, of course, does not fear making bold moves).

Smith has not requested a trade yet, but the Hawks could look to cut payroll. Smith would presumably attract more suitors than Joe Johnson (and Joe Johnson’s outrageous contract) on the trading block.

How interesting your use of adjectives is here, Jay. If you are going to call Danny’s moves “bold”, why not call Big Baby’s personality ‘charismatic”? The reason is obvious, in my opinion. The habit of worshipping authority REQUIRES scapegoating grunts. Danny is a reckless fool, so yes, he might very well trade away dependably fine players for more iffy talent. But yeah, let’s call him “bold”, and if we have any doubts that he really is more bold than reckless, we can just kick Baby some more. See, Danny is the Authority Figure, and Baby, well, he’s just a grunt. Authority is always right. Kick Grunt. Bow to Master. Kick Grunt.

Gosh guys. Doesn’t hating Baby just make you feel soooooooo much better? Hate Baby, Love Danny. Hate Baby, Love Danny. And when Baby is gone, we can find someone else to hate easy. Maybe Rondo? This whole scapegoating thing is one of the longest and most shameful human traditions, a ritual enacted over and over and over again, and the interesting thing about it is that the scapegoat is NEVER the person legitimately to blame.

paul…you really got some issues don’t you, including being hypocritical because you constantly scapegoat DA as in the 3 billion posts about the ‘trade’ and how DA decimated the team. I guess human tradition also lives in your house. And thanks, I am feeling pretty good. And why would anyone ever rag on Rondo? He’s the epitome of Celtic pride whereas Davis is the epitome of me first agendas. Go Cs…

Paul, I spent a long time bashing Ainge’s moves this season. And Davis can be charismatic at times. He also shows a pattern of immaturity.

Jay…really like the new banner. What’s all the mishmash to the left of Paul? Secret Celtic imagery or code? Go Cs…hope you have some draft articles and a thread tomorrow while the draft is happening.
