Rajon Rondo will play exhibition game on August 15

When Rajon Rondo last spoke publicly, his return to the court was still being postponed by the (disgusting) dislocated elbow he suffered (so disgustingly) against the Miami Heat. But the elbow must be progressing: Rondo is one of several NBA players who will play in an exhibition game at the University of Kentucky on August 15. (Hoopsworld)

Calipari is coaching the Dominican Republic national team and will call upon some familiar faces to prepare his squad for the tournament, which begins on August 30.

On August 15, Calipari’s two teams will collide at Rupp Arena, according to tweets from the head coach. Team Dominican Republic will face Team Kentucky, which will be made up of eight of the program’s former stars. Calipari will coach the national team while Sam Bowie and Joe B. Hall will lead the Kentucky alum.

Team Dominican Republic will include NBA players Al Horford, Charlie Villanueva and Francisco Garcia.

Team Kentucky will include John Wall, Rajon Rondo, Tayshaun Prince, DeMarcus Cousins, Jodie Meeks, Nazr Mohammed, Eric Bledsoe and Keith Bogans.

I never thought Rondo’s elbow would haunt him through next season (whenever that may come), but it’s comforting to know he’s beginning to feel better.

P.S. – Sam Bowie is coaching the Kentucky alum. Insert your “he got drafted ahead of Jordan” joke here.

Hopefully paul will be there to scout Rondo’s play to make sure he has been taking the 1,000 shots per day we all wanted him to work on this summer. Looking forward to seeing how he is doing. Go Cs….

James, thanks for the shout, man. But I rarely even check this blog out anymore. I don’t respect Jay’s opinions at all, and I don’t like having my comments edited. But on topic, I hope and pray that Rondo works like crazy on his shot this summer, and not just on the midrange j, but also on other shots, like hooks. If this kid could build his arsenal of shots, and maintain his focus more, he would be truly hellacious.

A lot of folks are claiming that it can’t really be done, that once you get to the NBA your range of skills is pretty much set. I think the great ones, and I think Rondo can be a great one, continue to develop as they go. Becoming a better shooter is something that you can only achieve if you FEEL it. You have to feel that energy between you and the hoop. You have to want it, basically. When I watch Rondo, I believe he has that. And a summer is not too short a time to push one’s skills over the top. It’s a all a question of determination. I worry that Rondo lets himself get distracted by the high life. I hope he doesn’t, because the Rondo I see in my head, knocking down those js, making the defender stick to him, and then hurting him with a variety of killer moves inside … man, that’s a Rondo I want to see on the court…

paul…Jay’s opinions are just that and nothing more or less valuable than any of ours. I hope you stick around as I like the banter even if you piss me off at times. I’m sure the feeling is mutual but that’s what makes it fun. Other than the subject you know we are universes away on I really like your analyses. As far as the ‘editing’ goes that should not ever happen. I believe I too have been edited in the past but since 99% of my posts show up unscathed I let it go. If it happens more in the future then yes that would be a major problem for me too, and likely everyone else. As far as Rondo, I am with you. You are so correct about ones capability of improving each summer. The great ones do the work (Bird, Jordan, RA, etc.). I’ll give RR 2 more summers and then when he is 28 he should be the absolute best point guard in the league for the next 7 yrs, maybe even longer. Rose may score more but that’s not what makes a great PG. Hope the idiot owners get it together so we can banter some more. Go Cs….

May I point out that although Ray Allen is a Hall Of Famer and a great player, he shouldn’t be in the Jordan conversation. I only say this because you grouped them together.

Nick…I was speaking about workout ethic and not comparing their greatness, which RA falls short obviously. Go Cs…
