Professional basketball players, including Rajon Rondo and Paul Pierce, will compete in Boston Saturday night. Of course, they’ll play at Harvard, neither team will play any defense, who wins or loses won’t matter,  the NBA lockout continues indefinitely, and seeing Jeff Green and Kendrick Perkins on the same court will only conjure vicious memories.

Do I sound bitter? That’s because I am. But Rondo will host a charity basketball game Saturday at Harvard (6 p.m.), and it has a lot of star power.

Among those also scheduled to join Rondo are [Kevin Durant], Celtics teammates Glen Davis, Jeff Green, [Paul Pierce] and JaJuan Johnson, former Celtics Kendrick Perkins, Leon Powe, and Marquis Daniels, former Harvard star Jeremy Lin, Rudy Gay of the Grizzlies, Josh Smith of the Hawks, and Kyle Lowry of the Rockets.

There’s so much good here. Kevin Durant playing in Boston for the first time in two years (he was injured last season when the Thunder came to town). Perk and Leon Powe making an appearance. Marquis Daniels is healthy enough to play. JaJuan Johnson playing in Boston for the first time since being drafted. Kyle Lowry, my basketball crush for no real reason, hooping in my backyard. Josh Smith is always good for some exciting plays, Rudy Gay’s one of the NBA’s most talented players, Glen Davis supposedly lost 25 pounds, Jeremy Lin returns to his alma mater, and Jeff Green, well, it could be fun to see him too.

But I’m just bitter. The Celtics should be playing real games.
