Glen Davis receives prompt call from Danny Ainge, but Detroit Pistons reportedly after him too

The Detroit Pistons have coveted Glen Davis for years, according to an A. Sherrod Blakely report, and will likely be one of his most passionate free agent suitors. (CSNNE)
One of Boston’s biggest challengers for Davis will be Detroit, a team that has coveted Davis for a number of years.
And the Pistons may be willing to offer Davis the full mid-level exception which is worth $5 million in the yet-to-be-ratified new Collective Bargaining Agreement. The Celtics have Davis’ Bird Rights which would allow them to exceed the salary cap to re-sign him.
Meanwhile, Danny Ainge called Davis almost as soon as NBA rules allowed him to. (Boston Herald)
“It’s my understanding that Danny called Glen early this morning and expressed his desire to have Glen back,” said John Hamilton, Davis’ representative.
Hamilton wouldn’t say much beyond that, but the sides have been talking for several days about what it will take to retain Big Baby.
I’m convinced the Celtics don’t want to sign Davis to a long-term extension (or maybe that’s just me hoping they maintain cap flexibility in the coming years). But if the market for Davis is $5 million per season, that might change things.
Davis — for all his flaws, and there are several — is a versatile big man who can play both power forward and center. In a league where Brendan Haywood makes $9 million a year and DeAndre Jordan could very well surpass that total this season, it’s a good deal to pay $5 million per year for a reasonably skilled offensive player who recently learned how to impact a game on both ends. I still (desperately) want the Celtics to prioritize the future ahead of the now (sorry Ray, Paul and Kevin), but $5 million per year — if indeed that’s Davis’ price tag — is undeniably enticing.

How the worm turns. Baby was once the hated one, just a few months ago. Now it’s Rondo that everyone is hating on, and Baby is being wined and dined.
So much for loyalty.

I don’t think anybody is hating on Rondo. Saying you might trade him for the league’s best point guard (or very close) isn’t hate at all.

You spit out propaganda/groupthink as well as anyone, Jay. Got to give credit where credit is due.
But, as you know, one doesn’t shop the guy who was once generally recognized as the putative future of the franchise, even for an arguably better player, unless you’ve decided he isn’t the future after all. That’s not a warm and fuzzy kind of decision.
Still, maybe hate was too strong a word for me to use. Maybe all the folks talking about Rondo being ordinary without the Big Three LOVE Rondo. Maybe all the talk about Rondo being a PRICK is an expression of familial affection. Maybe the declarations that Rondo will never be able to shoot are blown kisses.
Lol!!
What I find interesting is that the only two people who have had anything nice to say about Rondo, apart from Lying Danny and Smarm-Master Doc, are Shaq and JuJuan. There seems to be quite a bit of silence, otherwise, especially from the Big Three.
What is going on here is just the latest version of Celtics scapegoating. Earlier in the summer, Baby caught the brunt of it. Now it’s Rondo catching the heat. Baby is off the hook, for now.
But I’ll tell you this, pal: once the dust settles, the Big Three had damned well better win a championship. No excuses now, Danny, Doc, Kev, Paul and RayRay. You all won’t have anyone left to point fingers at if you don’t win one this year. You can’t blame Perk, can’t blame Rondo, and blaming Baby is getting old.
Celtics brass, big shots, coopted media and fans won’t have Rondo to kick around anymore, it seems. I just hope Rondo keeps his head together through all this.

Why do we need to know what the Big 3 think? This is the season of bullshit rumors and inane speculation that feeds on itself…like DA was shopping RR (where’s the proof? Big difference listening to inquires vs actively shopping.) RR knows where he stands with his teammates and that’s all that matters. Ergo no need for the Big 3 to way in as they only need to be preparing for a title run…even if it’s only the 7 of them. Go Cs…

Poor Danny. He just can’t shoo away all those annoying phone calls from gms trying to get Rondo away from him.
Lol!
I swear, between the Danny Defenders and the Group Think Rondo Haters, what a truly pathetic crowd many Celtic fans are.
One would never think, based on how people behave, that human beings have a God-given ability to think critically, having precious minds of their own. Folks willfully choose to waste this talent. Pick a crowd and stick with them seems to be most folks motto.
So fine, James. You go ahead and believe Lying Danny. You’ll believe the next permutation of the story too, as long as authority tells you what to think. And the next one as well.
Go Masters. Tell me what to think, what to believe, what to care about. I desire to be your slave. It hurts too much to have a mind of my own.

Davis is player the Celtics need to sign. Do they have a better option? I don’t think they do with the money they have left. Heck they may not even have enough to sign him. His work with the Celtics, taken as a whole, has to be viewed as positive. The downside is his with his skill level and lack of power forward height he has to be highly motivated to play well.

What makes your f’in belief that DA is lying any more viable than my opinion paul???
I have also expressed many times why I do not follow the authoritative crowd but you keep shoving your authority that you know me, what I think, what I believe, etc. Get over paul…or at least read my posts as I am fucking perfectly clear on what I believe and what I do not believe. I get so fed up when you just spread rumors about me or lump me into whatever ‘group’ you’re hating on at the moment. Go Cs…
