Keyon Dooling looking for Friday return

Keyon Dooling will likely miss tonight’s game against the Toronto Raptors, but hopes to play Friday against the Phoenix Suns. (Boston Globe)

“It’s frustrating because I want it bad, to be able to help the team,” he said. “(Friday) is my target game, but I don’t know. Hopefully I’ll continue to progress. As soon as I’m able to play, I’ll play. If I’m able to move and slide my feet, I’ll play.”

Dooling said he is able to run forward with no issues but lateral movement is more difficult.

“A big part of my game is lateral quickness as far as defense,” he said. “If I can to that halfway decent, I should be ready to go.”

Two words: E’TWAUN MOORE!

Moore admittedly didn’t look great Monday against the Oklahoma City Thunder, missing all four of his shots and registering nary an assist during eight minutes on the floor. But there was one play that got me excited, one play that showed Moore’s offensive instincts are greater than Avery Bradley’s (a compliment that only means Moore’s offensive instincts actually exist).

Moore caught a pass in transition, hustled the basketball up the court and spotted nothing on the fast break. Undeterred, he skipped a pass to Ray Allen in secondary transition — always a good thing, since Allen in transition either shoots an open three or draws defenders sprinting to him and takes advantage of their momentum. The latter occurred on this play and Allen penetrated into the paint. The ball ultimately ended up back in Moore’s hands at the arc. He saw his defender leaning one way and dribbled the other, carving his way into the paint. Once he drew a secondary defender, Moore dropped off a perfect pass for Brandon Bass, who got fouled on an attempted dunk (maybe it was a layup) and ended the play at the free throw line.

I’m reaching, I know. But Moore showed a little promise, even while putting up zeros in almost every important statistical category. I swear. Or maybe I’m just staring through desperate glasses.
