Rajon Rondo doubtful Friday against Phoenix Suns

Rajon Rondo sat out practice on Thursday and is doubtful to compete Friday against the Phoenix Suns. His primary backup, Keyon Dooling, could also miss the Suns game, leaving Avery Bradley and E’Twaun Moore as Boston’s two point guards standing. (ESPN Boston)

“It’s still sore; I took like 10 Advil, so I’m OK,” said Rondo. “I don’t know [about Friday's game]. Hopefully I get a good night’s rest. I’ll be in treatment pretty much all day today. Other than that. We’ll see tomorrow.”

If you haven’t been drooling for a Steve Nash-E’Twaun Moore matchup, you clearly aren’t a basketball purist. Nash is a two-time MVP who makes sweet symphonies every time he passes the ball and is known to make players like Boris Diaw look like All-Stars. Moore has scored 14 points in his career and almost broke the backboard with two separate jump shots Wednesday night (though he did earn a reputation at Purdue as a shot-maker, so there’s hope). Clearly, the matchup would be even and would definitely not favor the Suns.

Moore and Bradley DID receive an extra bit of instruction on Thursday. In a sign of his growing leadership, Rondo delayed his MRI so he could attend practice and provide pointers to Boston’s young point guards.

Rondo elected to push his MRI to later in the day so that he could attend the Boston’s hourlong practice session at the Celtics Training Center and mentor young guards Avery Bradley and E’Twaun Moore. It’s likely that Bradley, who ran with the first team Thursday, could draw the spot start, especially with reserve guard Keyon Dooling still out of action with a knee injury. …

Said Rondo of his coaching role: “We’ve got two young point guards and — not that they need help — but as much as you can encourage them and things I can tell them and try to teach them, I just wanted to be there for them.”

Rondo delaying his MRI to help Bradley and Moore = cool. Rondo needing 10 Advil because his wrist hurt like hell this morning = not cool.

I say start Bradley and Moore and let RA come off the bench as the sixth man. Doc needs to start experimenting and this is a great opportunity while RR rests his wrist. What’s there to lose??? Exactly! Go Cs…

Rivers complimented Rondo yesterday for taking on a bigger leadership role in practice and off the court generally.

Folks have been comparing him to Westbrook. Well, it must be nice to be recognized as the number two guy on your team, as Westbrook is. Rondo is considered number 4, or even 5 or maybe 6 on this team. No other point guard of his stature is marginalized on his own team the way Rondo is.
