Brandon Bass out 7-10 days; Jermaine O’Neal out today

Brandon Bass will miss the next 7-10 days due to a sore, swollen knee, leaving the Boston Celtics without their sixth man and primary bench scoring option. The Celtics often discuss injuries in time frames that are similar to dog years — where “7-10 days” means “out at least a month” — so let’s hope this isn’t another one of those occasions. I’m no knee specialist, but random swelling doesn’t sound great. At least he didn’t punch a friend in the face while his friend was driving a motor vehicle, which is how a certain former Celtics backup big man missed 27 games (I believe) at the start of the 2009-10 season. And no, I don’t know why I sometimes revert to bashing Glen Davis when I start to feel insecure about the Celtics.
Jermaine O’Neal (body made of Fig Newtons) will also miss today’s game, a development which led to this sentence being written by Paul Flannery: “Chris Wilcox will start at center and JaJuan Johnson and Greg Stiemsma are the backup bigs.”
Mr. Johnson, Sir Wilcox, Squire Stiemsma: ‘Tis time to prove your worth.
