Video: Rajon Rondo ejected against Pistons for throwing ball at referee

I don’t know if Rajon Rondo’s ejection meant anything more than, “Damn it, my team’s losing to the Detroit Pistons for the second time in a week, Detroit has taken 1,494 free throws compared to our six, and yes, I’m a little perturbed by this entire debacle.” Many good people have lost their cool during a basketball game; I got ejected from a men’s league game yesterday morning, and I’m normally the type of person who reads the newspaper and sips on a cup of tea while riots break out around me.

But put the dominoes together. Rondo had the best game of his season during a win against Chicago and refused to speak to the press afterward. I could care less about whether he speaks to the predatory horde of media surrounding his locker, but teammates later mentioned how Rondo is going through tough times. Less than a week later, he tossed a ball off a referee during a fit of frustration.

Trade rumors have swirled. Rondo didn’t make the All-Star team. Fans are calling for his head. His on-court feng shui with Paul Pierce has been called into question, the most famous Celtics fan alive wrote that he wants Rondo to be shipped away, and meanwhile, the Celtics have lost five out of six despite Rondo’s occasional brilliance, and despite that they haven’t surrendered 100 points in a game since Dec. 27th, during the second game of the season against the Miami Heat. The Celtics are an offensively challenged team with a thousand different problems, and Rondo seems to be blamed for the majority of them, sometimes fairly and many times unfairly.

Let me repeat: I don’t know whether Rondo’s ejection last night meant much. He could have just been naturally frustrated during a lopsided loss against a shitty team with referees who didn’t blow many whistles on the Pistons. There might not be anything more to the story than that. But if there is something more, Rondo has many reasons to boil and stew about the path his season is following. I’m not condoning his behavior and I would agree that he should demonstrate more maturity. But even those preternaturally talented enough to spin triple doubles in the National Basketball Association are not immune to occasional emotional outbursts, and Rondo — God bless his enigmatic soul — has plenty of reason for emotional buildup right now.

But no need to eat Rondo alive after his ejection. Even if he does have frustration filling inside him like a bath tub being drawn, he’s playing hard and he’s playing well. There are a lot of things to hate about the Celtics right now, but Rondo isn’t one of them.

I don’t blame him at all. He is constantly getting mugged in the paint, and now they don’t even make the call half the time. We all know how star players get the star treatment. Rondo gets the exact opposite. And it’s dangerous, people. Think about what it is like to attack the paint knowing that every opposing Big in there has basically carte blanche to mug you? Increasingly that’s how it is for Rondo. There would be something wrong with Rondo if he didn’t stand up for himself last night, especially considering that Doc sits on his hands while Rondo gets mugged. Ever notice that? Where is Doc all this time? Part of what is supposed to keep players from going off is that coaches are supposed to be their advocates. Why wasn’t Doc screaming about that horrendous no-call? Rondo is in such a miserable no win situation. Even his own fans described what happened last night as Rondo whipping the ball, or throwing the ball at the ref. No, he plainly flipped the ball to the ref, A LITTLE BIT HARD. That’s all he did, beyond jawing at the ref.

The way Rondo has been demonized is a form of collective insanity.

And notice too other things about that play. Rondo is blamed for everything wrong with the team. Did he run those totally anemic routes Allen and Pietrus were running, while O’Neil and Johnson pretended to set screens? Was it his fault that Pietrus was the only one who tried to give Rondo a passing option when he finally attacked the basket?

For his own good and for the good of the team, Rondo needs to continue his career elsewhere. It’s not what I want to see. I think he’s a true Celtic. But it’s clear that the front office wants rid of him, Doc wants rid of him, Pierce want’s rid of him, and the team wants rid of him, apart from possibly Garnett and Wilcox.

I’ll say it one, I’ll say it a million times: Celtics fans are the biggest a$$holes. Look how you jerks turn on Rajon Rondo when he has basically carried your sorry a$$es for much of the season. You don’t deserve a player as great as him.

Maybe he was doing what Doc should have done and ergo took the coaches’ role in trying to tell the refs they were f**king up and to spur the team out of it’s malaise. Doc is so milquetoast and therefore just sits and watches and does nothing. Trade his lame ass out of Boston…Go Cs…

I love RR. He’s the best PG in the game and you’ll never hear him say it though. He’s all about winning by any means, and when he’s on his game, he’s unstoppable from controlling the game. He is a floor general, through and through.
For all these reasons, it’s so frustrating to see Rondo do as much as he can and our team is still struggling. I personally don’t know why he’s getting so much flak from people who call themselves fans…I mean I personally have no problem with 20 and 10 from the guy, and to put all of our team’s ills on him is ludicrous. But trading him would severely hurt our team and his confidence as well. He knows this game is a business but he is a true Celtic if I ever saw one. He deserves to stay in Boston. I would lose a little respect for Ainge if he does. He already lost a lot of respect last year. Even though I don’t really like Perkins, he can rebound and since the trade, rebounding has been really bad. So ainge, if you make a move, get rondo a running mate in the backcourt.

Rondo has worked hard on his jump shot but it’s still not there he has worked on free throws too but also it is still not their. Rondo really is not the problem the problem is
    1. The celtics can not rebound this will happen when your starting PF and Centershave no knees.
    2. The celticsdo nit get baskets at the rim also because are starting PF and Center have zero post game.

C’s should make a move for demarcous cousins kid rebounds and scores. I would even trade Kevin Garnett for him
