Michael Beasley to Boston Celtics trade rumor

The latest half-assed suggestion rumor from Peter Vecsey has the Boston Celtics interested in acquiring Michael Beasley, the troubled soul who smokes marijuana, shoots 42 percent from the field, has a PER that has decreased every year he’s been in the NBA, and knows how to put the rock through the rim, but possesses a game that may or may not actually help teams win, and I’m leaning toward the latter. (New York Post)
The Lakers, also in dire need of a legitimate scoring threat at small forward, have genuine interest in Michael Beasley, but it’s doubtful they’ll use the $8.9 million trade exception (from Lamar Odom being shipped to Dallas) to acquire him because of the increased luxury tax consequences stemming from the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman recently committed to boosting Derrick Williams’ minutes, making Beasley extraneous. Minnesota is pushing hard to relocate his $6.2 million expiring contract and have the Nets and Celtics leaning.
There’s not much to say about this rumor other than this: If Danny Ainge acquires Michael Beasley with plans to build around him in the future, thousands of Celtics fans would grab their picket signs and lead the “Fire Ainge” campaign. The best part of acquiring Beasley would be his expiring contract, but the Celtics don’t need to shed any payroll. The only semi-reasonable Beasley trade that would increase Boston’s cap space would be an exchange of Paul Pierce for Beasley and fillers — and if Pierce ever got traded for a package headlined by Beasley, my head would explode and every dictionary worldwide would burst into flames where it says the word “loyalty.”
With that in mind, file this under “not likely,” or just file it under “did Vecsey do it again or did Vecsey do it again?”

What the hell is wrong with smoking marijuana? Jay, do you ever house a thought in that head of yours that isn’t dictated to you by the propagandists swarming through our media and politics? Wake up. Just because the media and politicians and roaring pulpiteers demonize someone or something doesn’t make it bad.
Oh, and why do you care sooooooooooooo much about being loyal to Pierce – which I agree with – but don’t give a crap about being loyal to Rondo?

I’m all for being loyal to Rondo. I’m pretty sure I’ve never advocated a Rondo trade except when the return was going to be Chris Paul.
That said, there’s a huge difference between loyalty to Paul Pierce and loyalty to Rajon Rondo. Pierce is a 34-year old in his 14th season with the Celtics. He has been with the Celtics through thick and thin, maturing into the veteran leader he is today.
I like Rondo. A lot. But the Celtics don’t owe him the same loyalty they owe Pierce.

Hey,
I have a friend whos dad tests for drugs for the players and alot of them come out positive for Mary. Also, that is why the NBA is the only league that does not test for Mary. If you did not know, alot of nba players smoke, including Lebron and Melo. Even Dwight. Beasley will turn into a star with 3 hall of famers and Rondo with him. Im excited if we can do this trade because it brings alot of depth to our team. Also we are rumored to get Darko as well

Gotta agree with my buddy paul on this one Jay. If that’s the worst thing MB ever does then great for him. There’s a lot more serious stuff players do like beating girlfriends/wives for instance. That said, this guy has tremendous skill but is only 23 and immature. To me he is worth the risk compared to SP/KD/and all the other stiffs the Cs have brought in. He’s a legitimate 6’10″ and has suffered from having other players ahead of him. I say go for it and maybe the Cs ‘culture’ can turn him around. If not jettison him. It could be a great long-term pickup and maybe he’d listen to KG as opposed to learning from Haslem and Wade. Go Cs…

Beasley is 6’8.25″ with shoes on, according to Draft Express’s pre-draft measurements
He has a lot of skill, like you say, but he’s so far been against learning how to play team ball. He’s never played much defense, never shared the ball, never done the little things that amount to wins.
What realistic trade for Beasley would you advocate?

JO + 2nd rounder
Wolves free up space for Williams to get more PT, don’t add any salary next year (since JO is also expiring) and grab an extra pick in a solid draft class.
Celtics get a legit scorer for the bench who will… Ok I have no idea what he’ll do.
Honestly, with Beasley, anything from “Fist fighting Kevin Garnett” to “Averaging 18 a game and earning 6man of the year” all seems possible.

I agree with your points and that is likely a lot to do with who he has had as teammates. I don’t see Wade as a mentor as I do KG. The good thing is he’s only 23 and if he buys into those things he is deficient at then he could be a major asset. That said, we’ve got nothing to trade that I can see that Minn. would want. ESPN’s stats lists him at 6’10 but I do remember he was short of that. He could be a steady 15-18/6-8 player if he really applied himself. Go Cs…

I like Beasely. I really do. I think under KG and even Rondo and Pierce’s leadership, he can flourish into a remarkable player. I don’t care about his personality because Ainge has shown that he can manager huge egos. What I’d be worried about is his commitment to defense. Hes a score first never ask questions kind of player, and that’s not the Celtics. But like I said, 23 means very young and very coach able. He has great potential guys. No, I’d never trade Pierce for him, but I’d be willing to let JO and a pick go for him. If the wolves don’t bite on that, then idk what I’d do then. Maybe throw in RA and move Pietrus to starting SG? Either way, there’s never been a case where someone does from the most famous herb in human history. Cigarettes and alcohol? It’d take you decades to individually count the number of deaths. I hate the persecution of weed because there’s absolutely no bad side effect of it. I could go on, but this isn’t the place. My point is, Beasely would be a good addition to this team. We’d be TERRIBLY deep at the 3, with Green, Pierce, and Beasely. Not too many teams can say that.

Beasley has never been on a team that emphasizes defense so it’s just a matter of putting him into a situation that focuses on that and then seeing if he buys in, which I think he would. His choices are limited and unless he starts producing he’ll be out of the league. He is at the proverbial fork in the road. Maybe Minn. takes the JO and pick deal and then waives JO and Cs get him back as Minn. likely doesn’t want him. Go Cs…

Another thing I like about Beasley is that Minn. has given up on him, which basically means they won’t want an arm and a leg for him. I mean, if we can give Stephon Marbury a chance, I think Beasley deserves one.
