Lamar Odom trade a possibility for Boston Celtics?

According to A. Sherrod Blakely, the Boston Celtics might be able to land Lamar Odom from the Dallas Mavericks in a straight-up deal for Jermaine O’Neal. If that sounds like robbery despite Odom’s slow start to this season and current personal issues, well, yeah. But I’m not the reporter, just the messenger. (CSNNE)

Other players that the C’s have been linked with via trade recently include Minnesota’s Michael Beasley and Dallas’ Lamar Odom.

In terms of Beasley and Odom, it appears that Jermaine O’Neal would be the Celtics player most likely to be included in such a deal.

The Timberwolves would likely want more than O’Neal for Beasley, but that’s not necessarily the case with the Mavs and Odom.

When the Celtics were pursuing a trade for David West, they needed a third team to pull the deal off. That third team was going to be Dallas, which would have received O’Neal if the deal would have happened.

O’Neal, who is out with a wrist injury, played for current Mavs coach Rick Carlisle when the two were with the Indiana Pacers.

Sign me up for that trade, but something tells me it’s incredibly unlikely, mostly because Otis Smith doesn’t run the Mavericks.

Pass. Beasley has a higher ceiling than Odom, and can be built around in the future. Plus, ARE WE FORGETTING ABOUT A MAN NAMED JEFF GREEN?!?!

      A) Jeff Green won’t return this season, which is Odom’s only season under contract.

      B) Michael Beasley is only under contract for one season, so the Celtics wouldn’t necessarily get to see any of his potential realized.

      C) Would you really decline the option to add last year’s sixth man of the year in exchange for Jermaine O’Neal?

But let’s be honest here…Jeff Green is the best player out of those three. Unless we can get it so that we have a Pierce/Beasely/Green or Pierce/Odom/Green combo for next year, then pass. We can use Beasely or Odom THIS YEAR. I agree. But are we really gonna let Green just walk after he’s healthy? No.

Actually, I think Beasley has the best talent, but just has underachieved to this point…kind of like Green has. MB has by far the most upside. Dallas would be as dumb as the Lakers were if they let Odom go. Go Cs…

Not sure about that James. Let’s not forget that Green was the 2nd/3rd scorer on the Thunder team correct? The dude can flat out play, but he wasn’t received well in Boston last year because he was understandably uncomfortable in our system. Beasley is younger so time is on his side yes, but I think Green has more talent.

I really like Green but Beasley was the #2 pick for a reason. Would love to have both on the Cs next year though. Go Cs…

I’d like to keep Odom and/or Beaseley and keep Rondo.

But all this talk about other trades is pure smokescreen. The action is on Rondo.

Wait why would the Mavs trade Odom? They just got him and he hasn’t gelled 100% in their system yet.
