Celtics 104, Blazers 86: That was quite easy

Tonight’s blowout was actually important, not just because the Celtics lost by nine million points to Philadelphia on Wednesday, but because the Celtics embark on an eight-game road trip from hell following tonight’s lopsided victory.

My favorite occurrences from a blowout that was actually a lot worse than the 104-86 final score:

  • After being tied at 10-10, Boston went on a 71-28 run.
  • A lineup consisting of Avery Bradley, Sasha Pavlovic, Greg Stiemsma and Keyon Dooling took a letter knife and tore the game wide open.
  • Pavlovic scored 10 points and hit his first four shots. He was awesome, no sarcasm intended.
  • Rajon Rondo finished with just eight points and five assists. And the Celtics led by 43 at one point.
  • Bradley had 11 points and five assists on 5-7 shooting. I needed to check, but the assists were not a career high.
  • Marquis Daniels made an appearance. He was dearly missed.

That was a lot more enjoyable than whatever happened in Philadelphia the other night, no?

Certainly more enjoyable, but who else was perturbed by the fact that we basically blew a one-time 40 point lead? We should have won by at least 25 judging by the flow of the game. I understand it was our bench that basically won the game (excited about our bench coming alive) but geez! That’s alarming. But all in all good effort guys.

Why does it take a 44-pt lead befoe EM gets into the game??? Get rid of Dooling and give his minutes to EM. Go Cs…

Don’t get rid of Dooling. Just put EM in front of him what’s up with Pietrus? He injured?

Interesting that Rondo got singled out for a rip here.

Well, Jay, what I notice is that it was the starters who took control of this game, led by Rondo, who – by the way- got all his points in the first quarter.

But yeah, you go ahead and make a point of ripping Rondo.

I suspect that if Rondo had put up a bunch of stats tonight, you would have been bashing him for padding his stats.

Paul he had 5 fucking points and 8 assists…even the most obsessed Rondo lover has to admit he barely showed up tonight. That rapes your “let Rondo run wild” theory.

It’s 8 pts and 5 assists and that’s not bad for 26 mins in a blow-out with the team hitting 60% by the time he left. He only had 1 TO and no PFs. He wasn’t needed tonight so saying he didn’t show up is unfair. Go Cs…

Didn’t say he didn’t show up. He didn’t do badly. I’m just saying Paul always finds something to whine about when it comes to people analyzing Rondo. Surely you’ve recognized this.

My bad, I meant to convey your words ‘barely showed up’ and didn’t proof my post. Yes, paul is a major RR defender and that’s good. paul adds spice to this blog and is actually 90% correct on things except that 10% when he rails against DA and jabbers about the ‘trade’. Go Cs…

Nice contributions from the bench in this game. GS could be a real force in the paint if he just attacks the basket. Great play from Pavlovic. I feel he’s a better player than most think. Big road trip ahead. Let’s show the league what we made of Celtics…

If AB and SP attack the basket when they’re on the floor, then that makes our bench that much better. Imagine how much more productive they’ll be when Pietrus comes back from knee injury and Wilcox comes back. This trip will be very telling of our potential. I’m not gonna read too much into it because again, it’s just the regular season, but I’m excited after the effort I saw last night. Now we’re playing like we have something to prove. Remember that 18-game winning streak we were on last year? It happened because we were playing like we had to prove ourselves. We face the Lake show on Sunday. Should be a good game in that this is the home stretch and our focus is definitely on the post season now. AB is improving game by game. Pietrus has to come out of this shooting slump eventually (hopefully by the playoffs) and Wilcox didn’t play for “personal reasons” so I hope everything is well with him and his family. But he’s another valuable bench player. The Steimer logged some very important minutes as well because in this trip, I expect him, JJ, and EM to show more of their potential as players because we will be playing a ton of games in not a lot of days. Tired legs. EM is better than KD so either cut KD or tell him he better get his act together.

Why does it seem like whenever Rondo wears a headband, he plays his best basketball, and when he doesn’t, he’s just playing ok basketball?
