What in the world is going on with Jermaine O’Neal?

Jermaine O’Neal re-aggravated a wrist injury on Feb. 20. That’s almost a month ago. Since then, there hasn’t been a single real update to his status except, “Well, there’s a chance he gets season-ending surgery, but he also might just get a cortisone shot, but really, nobody knows anything for certain.”

There was a rumor yesterday, from the highly reputable Adrian Wojnarowski, saying O’Neal wants a buy out from the Celtics so he can join the Miami Heat. That would be a ridiculously — how shall I say this politely? — soft thing to do, quitting on the proud Celtics in the middle of the season, and I’d probably hate him for it forever and say it just cements his reputation as someone who doesn’t battle when the going is tough. But still, I wouldn’t entirely blame him. He came to Boston to ride his teammates’ coattails to an NBA championship, and that looks like it won’t happen. Miami would be a good place to get a ring. I understand that, even if I think nobody proud would leave a playoff team in an attempt to win a championship.

Then O’Neal hit Twitter to deny the rumor.

You can’t always believe what you see and hear on tv! Smdh!

I see I’m going to have to start back tweeting more because It looks like people know more about me than I know about myself! #crazy#

But I can tell yall that I do really miss playing and some of yall are crazy as hell on twitter lol! But its all love tho!

But I will be seeing the doctor again in the next couple of days to determine where my wrist is at this point.

Based on his last tweet, it seems like O’Neal’s injury status still hasn’t been fully determined. Since it’s been a full month, maybe O’Neal is trying to fend off season-ending surgery to make a return for the playoffs. I’d respect him for that. But again, it’s been almost a full month. It might be time to make a determination on this bothersome wrist, no?

To make matters even more confusing, Doc Rivers said he doesn’t expect O’Neal back the rest of the season and Danny Ainge sounded his vaguest when addressing O’Neal’s status, yet O’Neal was working out at the team’s practice facility yesterday. (ESPN Boston)

“I’m actually going to meet with [O'Neal on Friday],” said Ainge. “I’ve just have been swamped the last few days since I got back from L.A. … [O'Neal is] actually working out here [at the team's practice facility in Waltham]. I have an appointment with him tomorrow.”

And does Ainge expect a resolution?

“I don’t know. Good question, I don’t know what’s going to come from that meeting,” he said.

So to recap: O’Neal can work out, yet Doc Rivers expects him to miss the rest of the season. Danny Ainge has no clue what the hell will come from a meeting with O’Neal. O’Neal himself said he still needs to meet with doctors, and denies the rumor that he wants to join the Heat.

Maybe by “rest of the season” Doc meant the reg. season and not the playoffs. Hopefully, the rest, shots and any therapy he’s doing (after resting it of course) will allow him to come back for the playoffs? Maybe this is why DA did not go get a big to fill the void? And I cannot believe he would ever ask out to go play for Miami. And the Yahoo source is many times dead wrong. Go Cs…
