Boston Celtics injury updates: Ray Allen out another game, Cs patient with Mickael Pietrus

Ray Allen update from ESPN Boston:

Celtics guard Ray Allen will miss the next two games due to a sore right ankle.

The ankle flared up at the end of an eight-game road trip, forcing him to sit out Friday’s game in Philadelphia. Celtics coach Doc Rivers said he underwent an MRI Saturday, which was negative, but Allen will also miss Sunday’s visit from Washington and Monday’s trip to Charlotte.

Allen was originally pegged as a starter on the lineup card turned in before the game, but appears to be a late scratch. That seems to suggest the injury is truly a day-to-day situation, but by giving him this back-to-back off, the team can rest him until Wednesday’s visit from Utah (allowing him six days off since his last activity Thursday in Milwaukee).

Mickael Pietrus update from ESPN Boston:

Celtics coach Doc Rivers said Mickael Pietrus is not ready yet to take the concussion tests that would allow him to return to action, but said he talked with the guard after his injury scare in Philadelphia and playfully noted he sounds in good health.

Rivers said all the initial medical testing confirmed that Pietrus simply suffered a concussion after spilling hard to the floor Friday in Philadelphia and said the team will exercise caution with bringing him back.

“He’s not even ready to take a [concussion] test yet,” said Rivers. “They do the baseline test — the same thing the NFL [does] — they do the test before the year now — it’s the first year we’ve ever done that — but he’s not even ready to take the test. So, we’ll just have to wait and see.”

And as long as the two are out, Avery Bradley will continue to outscore entire NBA teams during the first quarter, average 23 points per game and cause opposing guards to run screaming in the opposite direction with trickles of urine dripping down their legs.

If Avery Bradley can adapt slashing drives to the hoop and use his speed to his advantage, he could be the next Iverson.

Andre Miller would be the better comparison, IMO.

Guy was a master of that back door cut. Only guy I’ve ever seen be able to average 15+, and shoot outside of 5ft, maybe twice a game.

Whoah let’s calm down a bit. Iverson was an absolute beast offensively. He was a better shooter than Bradley as well. Not a knock in any way on Bradley’s skills of course. For me, it’s all about his jumper, which he’s proven he can excel at. The last game, along with tonight’s game, should provide an abundance of confidence for him. We need to give EM his minutes!!! He should come in behind Ray Allen when he gets back, Pietrus needs to come behind PP (sorry pav) and Bradley behind Rondo. Bring in bass behind KG and move Hollins to the 5 after 2 weeks. Bench scoring? Yeah right.

Sorry. I meant bench scoring wouldn’t be a problem.

That concussion looked awful. I expect Pietrus to be out for a while.

I like Bass coming off the bench as well, but it’s interesting to see Bradley and Rondo in the backcourt together. EM should be playing more as well.

PS. Greg, speaking of bench scoring, Memphis beat the Lakers last night thanks to their bench; in fact, the Grizzly starters were all in the negative save for Tony Allen (how did we let him get away). Memphis’ bench were all in the plus category. They brought Randolph off the bench for some scoring punch (as he recovers from injury). The balance was perfect. And when did Tony Allen become a shooter? He made a three pointer early on, plus knocking down a clutch jumper in the late stages of the fourth Q. Not to mention a spin move on Kobe that looked like Jordan, leading to a layup. But his defense on Kobe there’s no stat for. The guy is a quiet force in the game who makes a huge impact. Too bad Ainge didn’t appreciate him more.

Though Ainge did recognize after the end of last season that they missed his toughness. Duh!!! If we had TA and Perkins now, we would be a much better team, a true contender.

Losing TA was not a smart move, but life without KP is wonderful. And we have Green in the wings still. You can’t look back in hindsight and say what ifs. I am with you on AB and RR playing more together and certainly EM and JJ getting meaningful minutes. Go Cs…
