E’Twaun Moore ‘a little angry’ about not playing much
E’Twaun Moore played a little bit earlier in the season, had a monster game during the Orlando Magic bar fight, played a little more, and later got beat out for a spot by Avery Bradley and Keyon Dooling. During the two months (or so) since then, the Purdue product has been more or less fastened to the bench, and he’s not thrilled to have so little opportunity on the floor. “When you’re used to playing a lot your whole career, it’s tough to watch,” Moore said. “You’re like: ‘Oh, man. I can do this or help to do that.’” …
“Of course I want to play. Of course I’m not happy about not playing. Of course I’m a little angry,” Moore said. “But I’m still confident in my game, confident I can come in and hit the big shot when needed.
“You’ve just got to stay with it.” …
“They’re working every day but I think it’s a tough year for those guys or any other young guys,” Rivers said before Thursday’s Bulls game. “You have no practice. They really don’t have an opportunity to improve or for us, for me, to visually see them a lot.”
Moore smiled when told that.
“Yeah, that’s why you gotta play,” he said.
If this were somebody with previous attitude issues — say, Glen Davis — I’d have a problem with these comments, especially the flippant and somewhat obnoxious final line of that block quote. But Moore has by all accounts been an upstanding citizen this season. Kevin Garnett has raved dozens of times about how the youngsters this year, more than others, get it. Doc Rivers, in the same story as the quotes above, said Moore and JaJuan Johnson are “both great kids. They work their tails off,” adding that they clearly have good work ethics because “the dinosaurs” like them.
Moore isn’t a problem child. He’s not going to make a stink in the locker room. He’s a 23-year old rookie who never came off the bench in his entire life until this season and is struggling, like all competitors do, to sit on the sideline day in and day out when he feels like he can contribute something. He’s a good kid who wishes he could play a little more. That’s it. No controversy here. Move along.

Like I’ve said before, Jay, you seem to have what I see as a sickeningly militarized view of the world. See, I believe in peace, and I believe in the rights of the individual. I don’t believe in a world that is all about war all the time, and it’s ONLY in such a world that the individual is constantly suppressed, supposedly for the good of the collective.
I’m damned proud of E’twaun that he has a bit of attitude here. I EXPECT free human beings to have some attitude. I expect them not to be genuflecting to Doc or some other authority figure at every opportunity.
i find your nasty reference to Glen Davis typically nauseating. Sure, Glen Davis is a proven blockhead at this point, but all that guy did was try to play well for us. So damned what that he wanted to start. Who doesn’t? WHAT PLAYER DOESN’T WANT TO START? You recognize this about Allen, but you refuse to accept it about Davis. Sure Davis tailed off last season, but a lot of guys did. A lot of guys were understandably confused by what was going on, and he’s more easy to confuse than most.
You and everyone else made the blazingly unethical choice to scapegoat Davis, and you choose to persist in this.
I like Brandon Bass 100 times more, because he’s so much scrappier than Davis. But I also recognize that Davis has come through big time for Orlando lately. The Bass for Davis trade looks more and more like a move that benefitted both teams and both players. Good.
But let’s stop making Glen Davis the poster boy for bad behavior. He did fine for us. I like the bench we have now better. But thank God these guys aren’t automatons. Thank God! I WANT players to have minds of their own, to be individuals, not to be craven crawlers at Doc’s feet. E’twuan has ever right to have a bit of attitude about his situation. Good for him. Now if he starts trouble that derails the team, that’s a different story, but there’s no sign of that.

EM has shown more in the games he has been in, and when given a true chance earlier in the season, than Dooling so I too am not happy he is sitting. Doc’s notorious for not playing younger players, but the AB situation was forced on him…and guess what, look how well it has worked out. EM is where AB was last year but the difference is EM had more college years but isn’t getting the minutes. You will never convince me that KD is a better player and brings more to the Cs than EM. I love his confidence, his jumper and he’s another young player that can help whereas I’ll bet KD is no longer a Celtic after this season. Go Cs…
