Paul Pierce might be contemplating retirement

Keep in mind: The other day, Mickael Pietrus told reporters he wasn’t going to play against the Atlanta Hawks even though he’d known all day he was going to play. Players can have their fun with reporters.

But this isn’t my idea of fun. Paul Pierce told the Boston Herald’s Steve Bulpett, maybe jokingly, maybe not, that he might retire after this season.

“Well, I figure this might be my last time anyway going to Jersey,” Pierce said before last night’s 84-79 loss to the Raptors. “This could be my last year playing.”

He then laughed, making it seem he was perhaps kidding. But he didn’t step back when asked about it further.

“You never know, man,” Pierce said. “I don’t know. I’ve got to preserve my body for the rest of my life.”

Hit with the basic John McEnroeline — you cannot be serious — he shook his head.

“I don’t know,” said the second-leading scorer in Celtics history. “I’ve thought about it. I don’t know. I’ve got to see how my summer goes with my kids.”

I’ll shave a mural of Mark Blount into the side of my head if The Truth retires after this season. It’s not happening. Not when he’s owed $17 million next season. Not with the way he’s playing.

Right?

P.S. — If the Celtics somehow managed to win a title and then the Big Three all retired together on top, that would actually be pretty awesome.

He’s a HOF-er either way. So if the standings stay the same (which I believe they will) then we have ATL in the first round. Assuming we win that, who will we face in the second? The winner of Miami-NY or the winner of Orlando-Indiana?

Then we will face the winner of the 1# and 8# seed matchup.

He’s not going anywhere. The Core 3 will be back as RA is going to love coming off the bench and this team will be even better next year with Green and Wilcox and all the new young guys (4 picks in the 1st two rounds – #21, #24, #42, #51 as of yesterday) from a very deep draft. Going to be great and then PP will sign a 3 yr deal for $24M and we’ll be good for the next 5 years at least. Go Cs…

I would love to see that happen, the way garnett and pierce are playing right now (I don’t mention allen because he’s injured)they still have a lot left in the tank. I would say maybe they will resign Garnett for a 2 year deal with a smaller amount (much smaller) and ray allen. But most importantly they should sign a GOOD HEALTHY center!!! for the love of god. No wonders why we are the worst rebounding team.

He won’t retire. Remember Allen said he wanted to play til the age 40. I can’t see how much KG and Pierce’s mindset would be any different, although I could be wrong. From where I sit, this ia a team is on the rise. I believe it is no longer a veteran team. For every veteran we have at the Celtics, we have youth as well. What if we win the title this year? Next year with the amount of cap space we would have, we will be even stronger. Back up has arrived and as long this team continues to win, there are going to be alot of players who will want to sign with the Celtics. Is a new dynasty dawning?
