Greg Stiemsma wants to remain a Celtic

Greg Stiemsma has earned himself some money this season, and when he gets paid, he would like to remain a Boston Celtic. (CSNNE)

Stiemsma will be a restricted free agent this summer with a qualifying offer worth $1.05 million. After traveling through Europe and the NBA Development League for years, the 26-year-old center would like to return next season to the team that gave him his first shot in the NBA.

“Oh yeah, absolutely,” Stiemsma told CSNNE.com. “Next year’s going to kind of take care of itself, I’m hoping, so I’m not getting too worried about it yet. But at the same time, with everything that I’ve learned from these guys and this organization, I’d love to come back.”

NBA general managers are well-known for throwing enormous piles of money at large human beings who don’t necessarily deserve them. (See: Brendan Haywood, Jerome James, and if you remember him from back in the day, Jim McIlvaine.) Stiemsma is likewise a large human being, but he might not be the type for NBA GMs. He’s 27 years old already, so he doesn’t have the upside of someone like, say, DeAndre Jordan or, say, JaVale McGee, and he’s a restricted free agent, meaning the Celtics will have the ability to match any offer that comes Stiemsma’s way. With that being said I don’t think Stiemsma’s a candidate for a ginormous contract, but he definitely made himself a nice chunk of change this year.

Would love to see him back as he has earned the right to a multi-year deal. Would still like to find a long-term center starter though. Go Cs…

He’s a great player and is only going to get better so of course Boston should look to retain his services.

“Steamer” wants to return and we definitely want him back!! If the Great Tommy Heinsohn is comparing him to Russell !! and giving him Tommy points most nights, then this debate is over – resign Steamer!! The Celtics God(s) have spoken…and endorsed him…this kid is a keeper…case closed.
