Rajon Rondo suspended for Game 2

(video of Marc Davis questionable calls during Game 1 via Red’s Army)

I had been hoping the Boston Celtics would become Neo from the Matrix and dodge a bullet on Monday, but David Stern and Stu Jackson have hit their mark.

Rajon Rondo has been suspended for Game 2 of the Celtics-Hawks series, according to Boston sports anchor Mike Dowling, a punishment he surely deserves after bumping chests with referee Marc Davis during Game 1.

This season continues to be a lesson in adversity. First there was the Jeff Green heart issue, then the Chris Wilcox heart issue, Jermaine O’Neal’s inevitable season-ending injury and Ray Allen’s bone spurs. The Celtics have so far taken the tsunami waves headed their way and rode the crest of those waves until they safely reached shore. Now the Celtics will need to win Game 2 without their star point guard.

Beating the Hawks on the road in Game 2 without Rondo is doable, but the Celtics just lost at least a portion of their margin of error. Expect the offense to run through Paul Pierce tomorrow night.

That was careless by Rondo, you can’t do that to a ref and expect to get away with it, especially in the playoffs. 1 small indiscretion and it could cost us a title run.

I promise you that we will win tomorrow, and then expect Rondo to come back with a vengeance.

But I also hope Doc and the guys keep working on him to truly learn how to channel that energy, that anger, that rage against forces that seem to conspire against greatness and accomplishment. channel it all to making what you seek to achieve happen. Channel it, channel it, channel it, Rondo. It’s not easy. The energy you have is like riding a dragon sometimes. But it’s the key to basketball greatness.

I’m so impressed by the way Doc and the rest have refused to throw Rondo under the bus, and by the way Garnett has made a huge point of reinforcing Rondo’s leadership, and the depth of the team’s confidence in him. It means a lot the way the team seems to have come together over this.

Typical NBA b.s. but this was expected because they can never admit extenuating circumstances (the foot tripping leading to the ‘bump’). We’ll be OK and it is great how the team is rallying together. this will help going forward. Go Cs…pound the boards and win the game!
