Kevin Garnett’s “grit and balls” interview

Kevin Garnett’s “grit and balls” comment will obviously (and rightfully) earn the headlines and glory. But lost in his marvelous three and a half minute interview was his response to Ivan Johnson, who earlier this series called Garnett a dirty player and the Celtics a whole bunch of “mess-talkers.”

I’ve taken the opportunity to translate Garnett’s words on Johnson.

“Talk is cheap, action is a lot.”

(Translation: “I’ve made 14 All-Star teams. I have an MVP trophy, a Defensive Player of the Year Award and an NBA title. What the hell has Ivan Johnson done in his career besides terrify women and young children who sit courtside and occasionally patronize Larry Drew?”)

“The young fella’s young. He don’t know his left from his right.”

(“Plus, did you see what happened when he tried to shoot a layup over me last night? Get that weak shit outta here.”)

“I don’t even address that. If it was Joe Johnson or Smoove (Josh Smith), it’d be different. I told him, ‘I’m not speaking to nobodies.’ I’m not addressing nobodies.”

(“Neither Joe Johnson or Josh Smith are stupid enough to give me even more motivation than I normally play with. But if they were, I’d most definitely call them nobodies too.”)

KG is unreal. Love his passion, desire to win, and his understanding of TEAM. He really could be a coach one day, not that i think he will but has the basketball knowledge and is a motivator. This guy lives for Celtics basketball, hope he is around for a couple more years… not to look forward but this off season will be the most interesting off season in a long time. Last night Gorman pointed out how only two of the Celtics on the floor at one point were on the team last year, and one of them was Avery… next year we could be without Ray, KG, Bass , then theres MD , Wilcox, Jeff Green, MP who knows what this team will look like next year?

KG is a beast, can not compare him to any player in the history of the game, he is his own person, does things his way, and is one hell of a player that I want on my team every day of the week even if hes 40.
