Celtics-Sixers Game 1 open thread

The Boston Celtics can throw (and have thrown) as much praise toward the Philadelphia 76ers as they would like, but somewhere beneath all the outward respect and admiration, they understand this second-round matchup was supposed to be more difficult.

That’s not to say the Sixers are pushovers — they defend like hell, share the basketball and feature waves of athletes flying around the perimeter. But the Celtics were supposed to be preparing to face the defending MVP and the league’s top-ranked defense on the road. Instead, they are at home against a team with no go-to guy that, just a few weeks ago, had reportedly started to tune out its coach.

Expect a series that’s somewhere on the ugly scale between “Kevin James eating cake and wearing a Speedo” and “Michael Sweetney rubbing suntan lotion all over his body.”

The Celtics are banged up, we know, and didn’t get any rest between series. But they could have had to travel to the United Center to meet Derrick Rose, Tom Thibodeau and one of the Eastern Conference’s fiercest front courts. Philadelphia is capable of beating the Celtics, but the path to the conference finals could have been significantly tougher.

So this is the generation of basketball I keep hearing about being the greatest of all time? Interesting.

That’s it, keep shooting jumpers. Can anyone drive to the hoop or get an offensive reb??? Go Cs…excellent start, nope I meant typical start.

Out rebounded 14-7 in first qtr and PP has ’0′ in 10 mins…that’s not going to win anything. Go Cs…time to wake up!

4 starters other than KG are 1-17 shooting with 3:38 left in the 2nd QTR. Live by the jumper, die by the jumper. And -10 in rebs. This is looking like a blowout loss. Go Cs…

Despite a bad start the C’s aren’t getting blown out like they should be. I think the second half will show us how much they really want this game. Rondo is on pace for 10+ assists again. But our offense needs to step up!

They better play the 2nd half like they did the last 3 mins of the half. As Shaq is saying the Cs are just going through the motions and can “flip the switch’. Hopefully, doc is reaming them out and they come out and drive to the hoop and rebound better. Go Cs…

Cs flip the switch, win the rebounding (+11 after 1st Qtr) and RR was awesome. If we can ever hit some 3s we’ll be winning these type of games a lot easier. PP finally rebounded too with 6 rebs in his last 30 mins. He knee is bothering him, but if we get this done sooner than later and if MP can get it together then he’ll be able to rest more as this series goes and before we meet the Heat. Just have to play the whole game as we did in the 4th QTR. Go Cs…
