Paul Pierce confident, desperate on eve of Game 7
If Paul Pierce played against Michael Jordan and the 1996 Chicago Bulls, he would probably consider himself the best player on the court and believe his team to be the favorite. So it’s no surprise Pierce sounds quite confident — and desperate — on the eve of Game 7. (WEEI)
“Of course, we’re at home but they’ve beaten us on our home court,” Pierce said, referring to the 82-81 loss in Game 2. “You still have to go out and play the game but I feel good. A couple of days rest for a veteran team, much needed. I like our chances.
“I think we’ll come out with a great sense of urgency. It’s Game 7, there’s no tomorrow. In order for us to advance, we have to give it our all. We have to give it everything we’ve got. We need everything from everybody, whoever steps on that court to understand that this is it, this could be the season. That’s the way we have to play. We have to play like a desperate team, whether we’re at home or not. The team that wants it the most is going to get it.”
“I like challenges,” Pierce said Friday. “I like being in pressure situations. It’s Game 7. I’ve been there before. I understand what it takes and I’m ready for it.
“It’s got to be a motivated group. What else is there? Game 7, what more could you ask for? If this is not the most important thing to you right now, then there’s no other way to motivate basketball players out here. Nobody wants to end their season right now. We have a great opportunity to advance to the Eastern Conference finals on our home court. That’s all the motivation we need.”
After reading Pierce’s quotes, I think I’m ready to scale a mountain.

Too bad they weren’t ‘desperate’ in Games 2, 4 and 6, as they’d have had several extra days of rest. If PP gets 7 or more rebs we win (even though he had 10 in the last loss, which their turnovers gave the game away ultimately). Hopefully, PP & KG have said these words and conveyed the ‘urgency’ to RR who had zip urgency in the last loss. Can’t wait and feel confident we’ll show up and the the other ‘predictable’ team that wins games convincingly and be facing the Heat on Monday. Go Cs…hit the boards and please be intense the whole 48 mins!

I don’t mind you ripping Rondo for the loss on Wednesday, but you’d better rip KG too. It was just as much his fault. He was awful on defense, and awful on offense, playing like he had an allergy to paint.

Come-on you can’t be serious. While KG did not score in the 1st QTR his stat line is pretty damn good for 3 QTRs. He struggled with his jumper but he kept the Cs in the game till the 3rd QTR was over and they were down by -4 pts. His defense wasn’t his best but at least he made the effort and he rebounded well (11 w/2 off.). I think you are thinking of BB and his game which really sucked as did Hollins’. RR played sloppy, disinterested ball with weak passes, terrible lay-up effort, and ZERO defense; always trying to poke the ball away as his man drove by him. RR was a matador that game. They all had an allergy to the paint, especially RR with his 2 FTs but the refs were also not giving the Cs anything and that definitely swayed the game to a Saturday night, prime-time, Game 7. ( extra fouls on the Cs. Hopefully, RR will drive more (and everyone else) and KG will get in the paint, and BB will hit his jumpers and they’ll play team defense WITHOUT DBL-TEAMING EVERY F’IN TIME. Another fault of Doc’s. Go Cs…and maybe the bench will score more than 5 pts??? As you say paul, the offense runs through RR and he just looked like he could careless out there.

Well, those are nice words from Pierce, and sure, it would be great to see a live team for, what, THE THIRD TIME THIS PLAYOFFS?
But when you’ve given a team life three times, what are your chances of knocking them down again?

Yes, Paul, I’ve been afraid all along that the games they threw away will come back to haunt them in game 7. You don’t play with fire in the playoffs. That said, I hope the real Celtics show up to play and blow these rags out. Philly is not that great of a team and it should not be a game. However, we gave these rags confidence and that makes them dangerous. Ray Allen, may your ankle be free from pain, so you can finally go off in a game. And please Rondo, get your nap so you can take it to the hoop and jam this game down their throats. GO CELTICS. I don’t want this to be the last game of the season.
