Jeff Green ’100 percent’ and fielding interest from ’12-14 teams,’ says agent

Jeff Green’s agent, David Falk, says his client is “100 percent,” fielding interest from 12-14 teams, and the second-best unrestricted free agent on the market. He said Green would return from heart surgery “better than ever” and isn’t committed to re-signing with the Boston Celtics, though they currently rest atop his list.
I’ve never met Falk personally, but I imagine he would put forth a valiant effort trying to sell ice in the winter or fire in hell. (Sports Illustrated)
“With the possible exception of (Brooklyn point guard) Deron Williams, I think that Jeff will probably be the No. 1 unrestricted free agent on the market,” Falk said. “It’s not like we have LeBron (James) and (Dwyane) Wade and all these guys floating around.
“I’d be very surprised if Deron Williams winds up anywhere besides Dallas or New Jersey (Brooklyn). So the next guy in the pecking order is Jeff Green.”
“I know that (the Celtics) want Jeff to come back, from (general manager) Danny (Ainge) to the owners to Doc and to his teammates,” said Falk of Green, who was drafted fifth overall by Boston out of Georgetown in 2007 as part of a draft-night trade with Seattle (now Oklahoma City). “He loves Boston. We’re waiting to see what happens with KG, what happens with Ray…There are other teams that could be very, very interesting to him around the league that will also have cap room.”
Falk said the “life-changing experience” with Green’s heart is likely to change the way he plays, too.
“The only thing — in my opinion — that was holding him back before was his extreme unselfishness,” Falk said. “I think the medial situation won’t make him selfish, but it will just give him a much greater sense of urgency.
“He had something that he loves almost taken away from him. I truly believe that — more than any pep talk from (his former Georgetown) coach (John) Thompson or from (Celtics coach) Doc Rivers, I think that the experience will give him a much greater sense of urgency on the court. I think he’ll be better than ever, because I think he’ll be much more focused on getting the job done.”
“We’ve picked out three or four teams, of which Boston is one, that he has a high level of interest in talking to,” Falk said. “I would say that Boston is the incumbent, but I’ve learned in this business not to assume things. Nothing is guaranteed.”
What difference would Green have made to the Boston Celtics’ season? Would he have provided them with the bench play-maker they desperately needed? Would he have continued to be the inefficient, below-average player he has ALWAYS been, the player who was overrated because playing a heap of minutes in Oklahoma City boosted his conventional stats and thus his reputation?
Would he have been another alley-oop option to run with Rajon Rondo? A disappointment whose lack of rebounding acumen coupled with his oddly meek offensive production infuriated the most knowledgeable fans? A versatile forward who would have allowed the Celtics to match up with bigger lineups while remaining small themselves? Who could have occasionally switched to shooting guard to pose mismatches galore? A mixture of all those things?
We’ll never know. But I have an invisible book I wrote. Can someone find me David Falk’s number so I can ask him to sell it for me?

I think it’s a bit unfair when people talk down on Jeff Green’s poor rebounding. Yes, he should be much better at rebounding but shouldn’t Brandon Bass be better at post ups?
If you only focus on someone’s weakness, you miss what they actually do good.
He’s not a superstar but worth being on a championship team as the B or C option, IMO.

We shouldn’t pay significant money for anyone we aren’t sure we want to team with Rondo for several years. And please, no more 20 million dollar contracts for anyone other than Lebron James. Not even Dwight Howard is worth spending the kind of money on that will make it impossible for you to have a legitimate supporting cast.

With JG we win the EC Finals. I wish his ‘urgency’ was there from the beginning of his time with the Cs, but if he plays hard then giving him a one year deal ($9MM was the last we offered before his surgery) as a way to earn a multi-year deal makes sense. I would not give him more than a one-year deal. Go Cs…

He’s a gamble for sure. One year deal would be perfect. But he’s definitely fast on the break and can shoot the ball. We need his athleticsm to add to the aging core, assuming that KG comes back. But yeah Paul, agreed, no 20M contracts to an unproven player. He was gunshy in Boston his first year, but coming in halfway through season is tough. If he starts camp with boston, I hope for better things from him.

Im surprised at the skepticism of you all. Jay, do you realize that the Thunder would be up 3-0 right now if they had Green? That we would be in the Finals right now with Green? I mean sure he was underwhelming last year but stop thinking instant gratification. To expect a guy who spent his whole career in a fast paced, green-light offensive minded team to a slow paced, defensive minded, execute-oriented team and transition seamlessly is insane. Jeff Green, Avery Bradley, and Rondo are our corner stones for the future. And don’t forget, Jeff Green is essentially on the redemption path right now. He hasn’t really played in 2 seasons, and when he was playing, it wasn’t turning any heads. He said in an interview that he “can really play this f-ing game” and has a chip on his shoulder. That does wonders for basketball players. Bring him back to a one year deal as James said, if for nothing else but to increase the “fight or flight” attitude we have with him. And bring back Wilcox as well. He seems to be forgotten completely.

The Thunder would be up if the refs weren’t calling ‘touch’ or ‘phantom’ fouls (KD tonight – his 4th) against the Thunder and letting the Heat pound the f**k out of the Thunder and never call crap (the Sefolosha dunk when Wade hit him but no call, etc.). So far Durant has 12 fouls and LBJ 3. Joey Crawford should be thrown out of the league. What a crap official. Go Thunder…

James you are SOO right. Joey Crawford has cost us so many games in the past, you probably know that way better than i do. The refs have been HORRIBLE in the finals. KD got fouled on that Bosh block as well. Let’s not even get into that bs non-call at the end of game 2. LBJ practically knocked James harden to the floor…and a no call. The Thubder went to a zone and protected the paint and it was working perfectly…why did they not keep that going?!

Whats funny is that you lambast Jeff Green, but offer NO alternatives. I mean, the only other free agent worth looking at is Roy Hibbert, but if you honestly think he’s walking away from Indiana you are, to say the least, mistaken. So please, I’d love to hear your reloading propositions.

Ilyasova, Batum, Gerald Wallace are all viable alternatives for the 3 position. what’s unparalled, though, is Green’s adaptability to the 3 an 4 positions. which isn’t necessarily a good thing, either. Unless he feels he has something to prove (to himself, to the Cs, or to the league), there’s no way he’ll accept such a short term deal, if he has alternative.

Nicholas Batum is available? Get him instead of Green if we can afford it. I think his game is more effecient. He might be looking to get out of Portland after they semi-blew it up this year.
