Miami Heat targeting Ray Allen and Jermaine O’Neal, according to report
Jermaine O’Neal spent the last two seasons wincing in pain, undergoing surgeries and dominating training camp. He reportedly developed such a bad reputation among the Boston Celtics players and coaching staff that they thought he stole money from the organization, believed he was “something of a fraud,” and considered him the team’s least popular player since Vin Baker (an underachieving alcoholic making way too much money during his time in Boston).
So naturally, the Miami Heat — who somehow turned Eddy Curry into an NBA champion before he played a single career postseason game — are interested. They’re also expected to show interest in Ray Allen, who would probably be considerably more helpful than JO. While I think about the two former Celtic free agents, I just want to share out one thought: If O’Neal had bone spurs in his ankle, he probably wouldn’t have played in the playoffs. In fact, he might have put in a request for euthanasia.
Without further ado, Alex Kennedy’s report from HoopsWorld:
Steve Nash, Chris Kaman, Grant Hill, Andre Miller, Ray Allen and Jermaine O’Neal are among the players who Miami could target with their mini mid-level exception, according to sources close to the situation. Those players can likely make more money elsewhere, but may be willing to take less to join the HEAT.
Another option for Miami is Brandon Roy, who will attempt to make an NBA comeback next season after retiring last December. Roy could be a low-risk, high-reward signing for Miami. If he’s healthy, he could be a significant contributor off of the bench. The HEAT can be patient with Roy, working with him throughout the season just as they did with Eddy Curry this year. Sources close to Roy believe he wants to sign with a contender.
Ray Allen will have A LOT of options this summer. JO probably won’t have so many.
And for the love of all that is holy, can we please never mention Brandon Roy and Eddy Curry in the same sentence again?
Curry’s an NBA champion, people. He deserves our utmost respect.

2 options for Allen
1. don’t be interested in the money and play for another team…
2. be a traitor to the celtics

I’d be madder at Ray if Ainge hadn’t treated him like crap over and over again.

Go find a GM in the history of sports who never fielded calls for one of their players. I’ll be waiting. Rondo has been “treated” worse than Allen but did he go to the tabloids and cry about being benched? Did he complain about another teammate’s work ethic? No. At this point I’m so over this “Let’s be loyal to Ray because he’s been loyal to us” that’s bs. Look at the Thunder. NO DRAMA is ever reported. They keep it all in house and once Ray started to go to the media, I lost a lot of respect for him.

AInge fielded calls for rondo but never actually made a deal that fell through because of last minute regret. Ray was actually traded for oj mayo till it fell through. NO ray as important member as the bigthree as the other. The chemistry between those three is essential to the c’s, heandrondomayhave hadfriction but evry athlete eventually has some, Kg had beef with rondo too, and ive seen PIerce yell at rondo during games. Their competitors who are gonna hold each other accountable plus, later on he actually hinted he might not leave by saying that it was hard to walk away from a locker room like that, at this point Ray is not looking for money, hes looking for loyalty, a place to play till retirement

I’m not saying we should be happy for them, I’m not even saying you should respect them. I’m just saying that you should come to terms with it and focus more on our team’s future. The NBA isn’t rigged or fixed, but it’s definitely biased. If it was rigged, the Lakers would have met Miami this year and last year. The Knicks would have faced Miami in the ECF. It’s not rigged. But somehow you just knew that they would win at least one at some point. Don’t dwell on what happened last year because our players aren’t. They’re already working towards next year. I’d rather spend my time focusing on FA signings, draft picks, and trades than the many many fouls that weren’t called against Miami in the playoffs. It would drive me insane.

How could any player that gushed about the joy of playing in Boston and with such chemistry go play for the team’s arch enemy (EC, with Lakers WC and at the top) thereby destroying the 5 yrs of goodwill built up? I just don’t see it happening no matter how many idiot pundits speculate about RA going to the Heat. Go Cs…

ray Allen would be a great pickup for the Heat, but lets forget about JO, shall we. I say keep developping young guys like Dexter Pittman and forget about shoddy old relics like O’Neal
