Royce White hasn’t been promised by Celtics, wouldn’t work out for them, according to report

It’s been reported here and elsewhere that Royce White has received an NBA Draft promise from the Boston Celtics. A source has assured me the Celtics DID promise White, regardless of how strange it sounds for Danny Ainge — master of creativity — to surrender his draft flexibility.

But David Aldridge of NBA.com reported today that the Celtics didn’t actually promise White. And not only that. He also reports that the Celtics tried, and failed, to have White visit for a workout.

Outside of the lottery teams, the most intriguing questions involve just who has supposedly made a promise to Iowa State big man Royce White, whose stock is climbing rapidly in the final days. Several reports say the Celtics, who have the 21st and 22nd picks, took the pledge. But a source insisted Sunday night that not only did Boston not make a pledge to White, it couldn’t even get him in last week for a workout.

White makes sense as a Celtics draft pick. He’s big and skilled and unselfish. He’s a top-10 talent who will almost definitely slip because of character issues, but he’s a top-10 talent. A good source tells me he’s headed to Boston if he drops to the 21st pick.

But now I’m just confused. Draft season is crazy.

Jay…can I please get my comment in the other Royce White post re Henson approved so Greg can read it? Thank you.

As far as this post…”character” issues??? How is having trouble flying a “character” issue? Something he has apparently been able to overcome now, too. Go Cs…

He also pleaded guilty to shoplifting and assault charges and left the University of Minnesota amid suspicion that he was involved in a campus laptop theft.

I think it’s funny how people think he has character issues. After leaving Minnesota, he didn’t get into trouble. I guess in some people’s eyes you can never change.

I despise all Boston professional teams, so I don’t want Royce going there. But, there are few, if any, NBA teams I like. I will probably watch whoever drafts him. I will do a lot of laughing if the team that gets him does well and his raw talent is honed.
