Doc Rivers on Ray Allen interest around the NBA: ‘We’re interested, too’

We’ve all witnessed the movie scene where the scorned lover runs off and his/her partner, normally after a moment of introspection, chases in pursuit. Rain normally pounds from the sky, for production value, and maybe the two lovers argue once they meet each other on the side of the road, or maybe at an airport, with an airplane awaiting to whisk the scorned lover away. They scream at each other, they cry, they pour their hearts out, they make up, and the scene almost always ends with a kiss to formally reunite the couple.
Ray Allen, by almost all accounts, is scampering through rain toward an airplane waiting to whisk him away from Boston. But the Celtics won’t let him leave without chasing in pursuit.
So many signs point to Allen wanting to leave Boston, but A) he has history in Boston, B) the Celtics can still give him an important role, if not a starting one (don’t think they can use a high-scoring, deadly-shooting sixth man?), and C) they can offer him more money than most contenders.
Allen may have one foot out the door, but the Celtics should be ready to chase him down.

The grass isn’t always greener on the other side. We’ll see if RA understands that he isn’t a starter anymore, but could be the killer 6th man the Cs and other teams need. I hope he decides to go into battle with the brothers he has in Boston. Go Cs…

Hey, people say stupid things especially in sports when reporters want a ‘reaction’. He should have been pissed at losing his starting role but then he accepted it and played well considering his injury. i’d prefer him back as opposed to Crawford being our 6th man or anyone else. You, who speak about chemistry all the time, should re-think your position. Who’s going to be our 6th man with instant offense if not RA??? Go Cs…

If RA wants to play for Miami then good riddance. Take your bad ankle and go miss a ton of open 3s and a couple of dozen FTs in the playoffs for them, just as you did for us. What a fucking traitor. I know Ainge did him wrong by trying to trade him, but still…MIAMI? How could he do this to his teammates. It’s like going to the Lakers.

I couldn’t agree more!!! Ray Allen leaving is bad enough but the idea that he would even consider going to the heat is like getting suckered punched in the stomach and then getting slapped in the face!
If he went to the heat he would be just like Roger Clemens and Johnny Damon. Nothing but another Boston back stabbing traitor.
But hearing that KG wants to come back only to the Celtics makes me like him and respect him more. At least one Celtic knows what loyalty means

See what I mean? Paul you are suprising me. I though you were all about loyalty. And James, why can’t Pietrus be our 6th man? He can defend way better than Allen and his 3 will start to fall once he is healthy. But I hope Allen comes back but if he doesn’t then good riddance.

I think MP is a 7th man. the 6th man traditionally is a guy like Vinnie Johnson (Pistons late 80s) that came in and could score 15-20 pts with ‘instant’ offense in 10-15 mins of playing time. I love MP, but he needs to drive to the hoop more and shoot less 3s. Go Cs…

And I think he will once he’s healthy. So are you comfortable with Moore being the primary backup PG?

Well, AB is more a PG and could move over when EM comes in, but I think EM can handle it and or use PP as a point forward. The key is having everyone move the ball and the Cs do a really good job of that except when they decide to take a night off or just stand around watching each other. Go Cs…

Wouls you trust PP to do that though? I mean if we’re being honest we can’t rely on him as heavily as we have to be a premier defensive player/ scorer/ point forward. We would be smart to get an Andre Miller or D. J. Augistin to fill Dooling’s spot.

Not all the time, but Im confident EM can bring the ball up. I used PP more thinking he likes to camp at the 3 and could initiate the offense after the ball is up. But he needs to more as we are better with movement. But RR is going to play 40 mins so it’s not a lot to ask of EM or AB. Go Cs…

Ray Allen is useless on the Celtics unless we find a big man to free him up on screens in the halfcourt.
