Boston Celtics select Jared Sullinger, Fab Melo

I absolutely love Jared Sullinger at the 21st pick, back problems be damned — almost as much as I loathe Fab “El Busto” Melo. I emailed a group of friends earlier this morning to say that if Melo becomes a productive pro, I’ll tattoo a profile of Kobe Bryant’s face on my chest and write a love letter to Rick Pitino.

But Sullinger? He would have been a top 5 selection last season and has dominated the NCAA for the past two seasons. He’s a beast inside and possesses soft touch on the perimeter. He has a little of Glen Davis’ “I overeat on occasion, so I’m likely to get my shot blocked more often than most” inside game, but he’s a real talent who would have gone a lot higher if it weren’t for red flags surrounding his back — which apparently don’t overly concern Danny Ainge and the Celtics’ doctors.

One out of two, in my grade book.

More to come later, as I’m at the TD Garden about to hop on a conference call with Doc Rivers.

This is the Greg that’s been here the past few months. I saw another Greg post on here a couple days ago so just felt the need to separate myself. But like Jay Bilas said, Sullinger is a top ten talent that knows how to play. Isn’t great defensively, doesn’t run the floor well, but rebounds and can score on the block. I like that. And Fab Melo is primarily for defensive purposes. Good pick and roll guy and can finish at the rim and is capable of rebounding. He’s a great shot blocker too. I’d rather have him than steimsma because Melo is a better athlete. Why did Fab Melo fall though?

You made a very, very stupid email to your friends. As a lifelong SU fan Fab Melo is a defensive stud and if he stays, depending on trades, you will EAT YUOR WORDS. Kobe tat, really??? Go Cs….excellent draft!

with the C’s sorely needing to get much younger and athletic, they quite possibly picked the 2 least athletic big phat slobs in the entire draft, in “(ja)Red” and “not-so-Fab”….what a bunch of fools running this once-proud franchise!!!!

How is Sullinger going to play with Rondo? He can’t run , he can’t jump, he is fat and has a bad back.

Hope there is a trade coming.

We basically drafted Craig Smith without 6 years of NBA experience

Well, when rondo runs, nobody else seems to run, so I would not count that as a problem, and this guy doesn’t need to run, the Celtics play Half court Offense, and that being said, you have a low post bench scorer with the potential to become better and back-up KG once he retires, let’s be positives!

people need to relax about sullinger, his vert gets a 2 handed dunk over the rim with a foot to spare and botht hese guys have 10 percent body fat, baby has like 25 percent.unless your worried about these gusy looking good in a calendar 10 percent isnt enough to impact performance but it is enough not to get pushed around on the block.

I Like this guy, he’s a beast! Let’s just hope we don’t have a Greg Oden deal here, If that’s the case I will go and drink a bottle of rum and cry until I fall asleep. Other than that, Looks promising and I liked what the celtics did, they needed size and rebounds and got a 7 footer Center and a promising Power Forward. Go C’s!

The problem with the 7 footer they drafted though is that he doesn’t particularly rebound that well

I am wondering if the Sullinger pick may help with a sign and trade with Bass for Josh Smith. I hope those trade talks have not died just because the draft is over.
