Add Carl Landry, Marcus Camby to Boston Celtics’ free agent targets

Marcus Camby is considering the Knicks, Heat, Spurs, Celtics, Mavericks and Rockets, according to @ChrisBHaynes: http://t.co/4TGueY9g

Danny Ainge is the poker player who chases open-ended straight draws every time. Many times he’s left with a busted straight draw, but once in a while he gets his hand, like when he swung for the fences and hit a grand slam by acquiring Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett in two separate trades.

Signing Carl Landry (link explaining Boston’s interest) or Marcus Camby wouldn’t be such a colossal home run and might require significant creativity (maybe a sign-and-trade for Brandon Bass?). It’s improbable, since they’ll both receive plenty of interest on the market and will probably earn significantly more than the veteran’s minimum. But Ainge doesn’t care for improbability. If a free agent can play, chances are that he will be on the receiving end of a call from Ainge’s smart phone (see: how close the Celtics came to acquiring David West last season despite having no cap space whatsoever).

Camby’s older than your grandfather’s grandmother, but he can still block shots and he’d instantly become Boston’s best rebounder. Landry offers different strengths, but they would similarly help to plug one of the Celtics’ greatest weakness (what, you don’t think the C’s could use a dose of interior scoring?).

Neither Landry or Camby are likely additions, but that won’t stop Ainge.

Camby maybe, but I’d still prefer Wilcox. And never, ever on Landry. Go Cs…

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 6 Thumb down 3

They just need any veteran bigs they can get their hands on really. Seeing as it sounds like they’re stacking up on wings.

This is hilarious… What did Landry do consistently last five years to be considered an upgrade to Bass? He is a head case with no jumper and bad work ethic. PASS

You don’t have to hit Home Runs.Build the team with solid players, guys who will work ahard to become better players. Singles and doubles will get you na lot of runs

I could definitely see my boy Camby going to my Cs being that he went to UMass and is from Hartford. I just hope he can stay healthy if they do get him.

camby as old an injury prone as hes been would be a great pick up… when healthy he rebounds and defends. no personal agenda , just a team player, would fit in great with the celts.
