Mavericks unlikely to match Jason Terry deal even if given the chance, according to report

ESPN reports that the Dallas Mavericks are unlikely to match the Boston Celtics’ offer for Jason Terry even if they are given the opportunity:

Free agent guard Jason Terry is closing in on a three-year contract with the Boston Celtics, sources close to the situation confirmed Tuesday.

Terry’s offer from the Celtics is believed to be for the full mid-level exception of $5 million annually.

Sources familiar with the the Dallas Mavericks’ thinking told ESPNDallas.com that the team, coveting financial flexibility, is unlikely to match the Celtics’ offer to Terry.

Yay!

Also mentioned in that report: The Celtics still want to keep Ray Allen.

    Jay,
I really like what you write on Twitter! I haven’t had to visit your site in quite some time because Twitter works more efficiently on my phone than your site, and being able to read all of your updates on the Celtics FA targets from my phone is very helpful! Keep up the good work!

Yes, but we miss your banter! Go Cs…looking stud-ly if we sign JT, RA, JG, BB, GS, MP, EM….that’ll get us to the ECF the next 3 yrs for sure.

Makes me feel good to be missed.. Ahaha.
I don’t know about being in the ECF for three straight years just by signing those players though. You have to consider injuries and the rise of Miami, Chicago, and Indiana.

I love this bench we are trying to build but we haven’t even touched the rebounding problem. We have to become a decent rebounding team. It kills when you get a big stop and give away the rebound.

That’s what BB, GS, JS, FM, and anyone else over 6’5″ is for. They’ll all rebound and we have more size now. Maybe even CW, too. Go Cs…

That’s what scares me James, you listed two rookies for rebounding… FM stunk at rebounding anyway…. BB and GS couldn’t rebound last season what makes you think they will this season. I would take Camby if you could for cheap.

We needed some bigs and so we got them. Will Doc play them? There’s still Wilcox maybe, sullinger of course (a very good rebounder) and FM can rebound as that will be his sole roll when in the line-up. Same for all the Cs, as they will concentrate more on rebounding this year knowing it’s a major deficiency, but also because it allows them to run more and with Green, AB, BB,MP, and maybe Terry. FM is going to surprise so don’t write him off. Go Cs…

Wow this came unexpected, I was almost sure that the Mavericks would be back together… This is great for Boston, Terry still has plenty on the tank and can give Boston’s bench a huge boost… In other words I agree with Frank… I thought the first thing the Celtics would do this summer was to try and get a good center… I guess they are really trusting the rookies to step it up. I’m worried about Ray, he said after the game 7 loss to Miami that this team was the best team (no offense to Seattle) he had ever been in, and now he’s visiting the enemy on Thursday? what the hell?

As good as Sullinger and Melo will be, will they be heavily leaned on late in the season? Idk I mean they will be rookies after all. Of Doc plays them early in the season to see how comfortable they get, then I’m confident. But if they struggle to get off the bench like our rooks last year, then we need to go after Camby.

Doc needs to change his thinking re rookies and use them for rebounding including JJ. I hope we change our rotations this coming year as Doc has resisted in the past, but they worked out when AB, BB (not a rookie, I know), MP etc. got major minutes due to injuries. Go Cs…
