Brandon Bass looking at ‘as many as six teams,’ including Celtics
Brandon Bass is receiving plenty of attention as a free agent, according to the Boston Globe.
The Celtics are still in play to re-sign power forward Brandon Bass, who is being courted by as many as six teams.
Bass might be the most important remaining piece to Boston’s offseason, which makes sense considering he’s the only unsigned starter left. If the Celtics don’t keep him or use his contract in a sign-and-trade, they might not have any cap space left to chase a starting power forward/center. That could lead to, ahem, worst case, ugh, re-signing Nenad Krstic and utilizing him in a key role. (Seriously, the C’s have his Bird rights. It’s not out of the question. And yes, even though I don’t want Krstic within shouting distance of the starting lineup, I still think he could be useful in a smaller capacity.)
So, yeah, expect the Celtics to keep Bass. I just hope they don’t have to overpay him because of all his interest league-wide.

How good do you guys think the Bulls, Knicks, and Nets will be next year? Do you guys really feel comfortable with who we currently have? I want to sign and trade BB for Josh Smith. We do that, we’re the clear 1a to Miami. If the Nets get Howard, we’d better look out. We’d have essentially zero room for error the whole year. That’s not good.

Those other teams are going to be good but even if Brooklyn gets Howard the Cs have chemistry and know how to win in the playoffs. the Bulls will be tough but if we add JT, RA, JG, BB, MP, GS, and maybe CW then we’re right there with the Heat, if not the best in the East. I know you love JS, but I just don’t see him coming to the Cs because we can’t afford his value and price tag. He’s likely going to make $10MM at least per yr. I like our team as our core would still be there with Ra and then our bench is better and we’re deep in case of injuries. And I love our 5 young players too. They just have to get minutes. Go Cs…happy 4th!

Well let’s just hope the Lakers get Howard. As blasphemous as that might sound, that would make it so much easier for us. Another thing to consider is that the Nets would have a weak bench, which would be a strong advantage we’d have over anybody in the East. Same with Chicago I mean Rose wont be the same rose. Remember what happened to Amare Stoudimire when he first got the ACL injury? He was an absolute beast before that in Phoenix. Now he’s a shell. I still like our chances with the lineup you just mentioned (I’d go for OJ Mayo or Jamal Crawford instead of RA) but if BB is getting looks and gets an offer from a team that we don’t want to match, then we should try talking him into a sign and trade for JS.

JS is 26 and made $13MM last year. Do you really think he’ll settle for the $5MM+ exception or a deal like BB will likely get of $20-$24MM for 4 years???? I don’t think so. As far as other teams they’ll need to develop chemistry and we have basically 5 yrs of it with the core 4. We’ll fear no team. I’m not worried about DH and the Nets. Go Cs…

Okay okay. It was a nice gesture to cling to for a while I guess. But you don’t fear the Nets? Thats a potentially great big 3. They won’t have the cohesion that we do or the coaching, but still the journey to the conference finals will be a lot tougher. Again, a combination of Bb/JJ as our 4′s can be better than JS. Can’t wait for more free agency news! Try to stay cool on our fine country’s birthday. Hope you all enjoy it with good company and food (was forced to eat ribs which I hate)

I think a Bass for Smith trade puts us in the finals… Any truth to that deal? Josh Smith is close friends with Dwight Howard and Atlanta is in the Howard sweepstakes so Smith is a part of hoping he Howard goes to Atlanta

This interest in Bass is BS. Look at the teams that supposedly are hot for him. Almost all of them already have strong power forwards.
That said, I’m glad to see the Hawks are interested. We should offer Sign and Trade for Smith. We should offer everything we have, apart from KG, Pierce, Bradley and Rondo, including future picks.
The future picks will swing the deal. Ferry won’t be able to resist those.

I agree 1000% with Paul. Anyone we would need to move to clear enough cap space.

i dont see the Josh smith thing happening, it would be nice but its a pipe dream. the celts need a legit power forward and Bass proved to be a good fit last season. i think they need to do everything they can to re-sign him. He seems to be the best available one on the market and he has experience here… The celts are hurting for bigs… ya we picked up two young guys in the draft but sullinger is undersized center and melo’s offensive game is not nba ready.
Steamer could be gone
Wilcox is a quesetion mark
Hollins/Sean williams are at best 5-10 mins a game guy and are not the answer.
Please come back Bass, you had your best season ever with the Celts a lot of thanks to the system, Rondo, and playing with 3 HOF’s… dont sell out for a couple million more and go back to being an OK player on an OK team!!

would it be possible to sign and trade Allen and Bass for Smith? I mean, I think technically it’s feasible, but at the same time both the players and the Hawks would beneefit from it: Allen and Bass would get more money than signing with other teams, Smith would fit beautifully in the Cs’ roster, Allen would likely start since Johnson left Atlanta, at least for 1 season, the Hawks would get 2 solid starters/6th men, etc..
the only problem is the Hawks wouldn’t be contenders, so maybe not to attractive in Allen’s perspective
