Courtney Lee reportedly meets with Boston Celtics

Via ESPN:

The Boston Celtics have emerged as a serious suitor for Courtney Lee after coach Doc Rivers met with the free-agent guard Saturday night, according to sources familiar with Boston’s thinking.

Sources told ESPN.com that the Celtics, in the wake of losing sharpshooter Ray Allen to the Miami Heat, have ratcheted up their pursuit of Lee as a possible replacement.

Lee averaged 11.4 points per game for the Houston Rockets last season and hit 40 percent of his 3-point attempts.

The Celtics don’t have the salary-cap space to sign Lee outright, but sources say the Rockets have let it be known that they’re willing to participate in sign-and-trade deals with both Marcus Camby and Lee amid the increasing likelihood that neither of those coveted free agents will be returning to Houston.

Like with Mayo, I just don’t see how the Celtics have enough assets to acquire Lee in a sign-and-trade. Danny Ainge would have to be Picasso to pull something like this off.

Maybe sign and trade Wilcox and throw Rondo in the deal?

If the Mavs will do a sign & trade for Terry so that Celts would not have to use the non-taxpayer mid-level, and his Bird rights would come with him. That would free up the taxpayer mid-level for Lee. Would be into luxury tax, but barely.

All these sign and trades, who are we trading?

It doesn’t necessarily have to be who. It could be draft picks or cash.

Courtney Lee’s a great pickup if we can get him. A straight baller no doubt and he was a part of the Dwight Howard Magic at the height of their strength. He’s still one of my strongest memories from the Orlando/Lakers finals a few years ago.

He’s 6’5″, hits the 3-ball, rebounds and he’s got heart. He’s young but experienced and he’s versatile so he can spell Pierce or Bradley and play alongside Terry. Him and Rondo would be baller. Count me the EFF in.

This would be a great pick-up if we can pull it off. Maybe give up a couple of draft picks because I don’t want any of our players leaving. Go Cs…

James I don’t get how that works, can you help me. Trading draft picks for a player? How does it fit under the cap? Is that what Lakers did with Nash? I don’t get it, isn’t it the same as signing a free agent that would put us over the cap?

Draft picks have a predetermined pay scale depending on where in the draft they are picked. So the pick has a dollar value. Whether it fits under the cap or not depends on who is on the other end of the trade and the possible exceptions that might come with them.

Apparently the word “joking” is foreign to you all. How’s Lee’s defense? And if we get him, what will become of Moore?

His Dee is better than you think. I liked E Moore too last season but C’mon people he’s one bad summer League season away from being in the D League this year. Lee has experience and has been in the finals and is still young

Nobody knows how good EM can be until he gets playing time. The summer league games coming up will help and hopefully Doc starts using his younger players more next season so they’re ready for the playoffs and can contribute more than just sitting. I think EM is going to surprise a lot of doubters. He always produced when put in games this past season. Go Cs….

Greg, sorry to see you got censored over a harmless joke. We have to be careful what we say in here; since some weak people find it offensive.

James, agreed. I want to see EM go nuts next year off the bench. I totally believe in this guy and wouldn’t trade him.
