Jeff Green agrees to four-year, $36-million contract, according to report

Lil’ Wayne once said he woke up in the morning, ashed his blunt in his grammy award, looked into the mirror and told the man staring back, “You’s an ill n****.”

Well, I woke up this morning, drank a glass of water, read the Boston Herald, looked into the mirror and saw a smidgen of vomit trickling down my chin because JEFF GREEN JUST GOT PAID $36 MILLION OVER FOUR SEASONS, PEOPLE!! (Boston Herald)

Agent David Falk, who said Friday an agreement with the Celtics on Jeff Green’s contract should come early this week, clearly is pleased with how talks have progressed. Green agreed to a one-year, $9 million contract with the team last December, but the discovery of an aortic aneurism during a physical voided the contract.

Falk returned to the same starting point this month and got his wish.

The new deal, again starting at $9 million, will be worth $36 million over four years, according to a source.

No kidding, David Falk is pleased with how talks have progressed. His client — who is coming off heart surgery, hasn’t played a real basketball game since May 11, 2011, and cracked double figures (with 11 points) once in nine playoff games for the Boston Celtics — will earn $9 million per season for each of the next four years.

There’s a chance Green develops to the point of deserving his contract. He’s a 25-year old with All-Star talent and the versatility to play both forward positions. Doc Rivers even played him some at shooting guard in 2011. But Green has never even had a league-average PER. He doesn’t rebound well for his position, isn’t a very good defender, and THE CELTICS ARE NOW PLAYING THEIR BACKUP SMALL FORWARD $36 MILLION OVER THE NEXT FOUR YEARS!

Green’s team’s routinely perform better when he’s off the court. He was overrated in Oklahoma City because his per-game statistics were inflated by big minute totals. People want to give him a pass for his half-season in Boston because he couldn’t adjust to playing with three Hall of Famers, or whatever, but his per-minute stats were almost exactly the same with Boston as they were in each of his seasons with the Thunder. I don’t know whether to scream or cry or run directly to Danny Ainge’s house with a brick in one hand and a pack of matches in the other.

The jury is still out, of course. I’m hoping Green turns himself into an All-Star and makes me look dumber than Skip Bayless. But all the evidence we have to date shows that Green is unworthy of such a big, long-term deal.

That PER crap is bogus and was just created by Hollinger to salvage his shitty career of skewing stats. Jeff Green is still rough around the edges. Even though he’s been with our team for a couple years, he’s never been in a full training camp. He will be better next year under the new pressure this contract will bring upon him. Expect productivity out of him. He’s playing with a huge chip on his shoulder which works magic with players. Hate to tell you Jay, but Skip Bayless might look smart and objective compared to you when the season starts. Btw who’s your fave rapper? You’ve referenced a few since I’ve been visiting the cite.

Jay Z’s favorite of all-time. J. Cole favorite now. You should also check out Aziz, my roommate. He’s on the rise. And your Skip Bayless comment might be the worst insult ever, haha.

UFC are you serious? Jay-Z is the Michael Jordan of rap. The Bill Russell of hip hop. I mean I respect your musical tastes but Jay is right on the money with this one…Jigga is the best ever. Jay why’s your favorite Jay-Z album?

No please you didn’t say that. You must not listening to undaground rap. AOTP, Necro, Ill Bill, JMT, Sunz Of Man, Dr Dooom, Esham. There’s 100 better rappers than Jay Z including Big L RIP. No way would I listen to that sucka Jay Z. The man made his pledge to the Illuminati and he has come a long way since the Originators. Now he’s just a sellout commercial muthaf–ker. Again, no offense intended. Each to his own. Some people are serious bout they HIP HOP and others arent. And while we on the subject of HIP HOP. I send a RIP to KMG The Illustrator. C u @ tha Crossroadz.

Give the man a chance. He only played like half a season. I agree the price is a little high but I am sure he will show improvement once the season gets going. Mark my words. Boston will be hanging around the top spot in the East again. As long as we got our Big 3 we going to be a contender. And I agree JT is an upgrade from u know who.

Right now, I rather have seen Jeff Green against Miami in the last playoff series than Perkins and I’m sure OKC would have liked to have Jeff during the finals. I think okc could have used his 16 points a game… Not his per bull shit but his actual 16 points and 6 rebounds he used to give them.
If he can give us 14 and 5 off the bench and learn our defense its worth the money. We could afford the 36 million, what we couldn’t afford was to lose Green and Ray in the same week.
We need him to be great, it’s our only hope. With training camp and a few months to get back in the grove he’ll be fine

Heres where peoples lack of watching NBA games besides the Celtics hurts them. Green will be well worth the money, dont let the stats fool you. I know there are a lot of people who post but dont forgot Donny predicting that Jeff Green will well overplay his contract and you will be thinking 9 mil per yr is a bargain. I predicted Avery being a starter before last season, Green will prove his worth. Although I dont agree with your Jeff Green analysis, kudos on your recognition of J. Cole. Hes going to be the next great without talking about how hes going to shoot and kill everyone, Cole world.

As crazy as this may sound, I think overpaying Uncle Jeff was a good thing. The main thing he lacked in his time here was assertiveness and confidence. I think having a big contract will help in those regards.
