Nenad Krstic returns to CSKA Moscow in Russia with no opt-outs

OFFICIAL: Nenad Krstic signed a new contract with CSKA Moscow till the end of the season 2013-14

The two-year deal doesn’t contain any opt-outs, according to the team’s president, so the Celtics are now out of the running for Krstic.

I’m not the biggest Krstic fan (he’s softer than a billionaire’s toilet paper) but it was looking more and more like he might be Boston’s best option at backup center. If Greg Stiemsma signs a $3 million deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves like he reportedly will if they find cap space, he’s a goner. Chris Wilcox was a pleasant surprise last year but he was just recently cleared for contact after season-ending heart surgery. Fab Melo isn’t ready, Jared Sullinger probably can’t play center yet and Boston has no cap space with which to intrigue free agents. The Celtics held Krstic’s Bird rights, which is why they could have offered him more than the veteran’s minimum, but now he’s returning to Russia.

To the garbage heap Danny Ainge goes in hopes of finding a decent backup center? Sadly, he might not have any other choice.

it’s funny we just signed another player that went thrugh season-ending heart surgery for 36mil.
so far the Cs are a truly poorly desigend team, lacking depth at the 2 and the 5 position (and this considering that Terry can play PG for short stints)

No, I think the Celtics show promise this year and will be hovering around the top spots in the East.

Obviously Krstic would prefer to be a bigger player in an inferior league as opposed to playing against the world’s best. Glad he isn’t a Celtic. Go Cs…get Lee!!!

the truth is we needed Judas badly. assuming that Bradley comes back at full strenght from day one, we’d have a starting lineup of Rondo, Bradley, PP, KG and…??
and a second unit composed by Terry, Moore, Green, Sullinger, Melo. JJJ seems useless, so does the third string SF we picked up in the second round. Talent wise, it’s a good team, but poorly assembled.
I hope Ainge plays some trick.
I know I’m leaving Bass out of the picture, but even if we have his bird rights it’s not clear (to me) if we can match ANY offer he could get.

Bass already agreed to come back. JJ is a pretty decent rebounder and has a good shot but just needs time on the court. And do not sell Joseph short. The kid can play and I believe he and Melo are going to surprise a lot of C-fans. obviously, I am a huge SU fan and watch as many games of theirs as I can so I base my comments on my own ‘scouting’. We’ll see. Go Cs…

yep I missed the news about Bass. He signed for 20mil/3 years. don’t get me wrong, I love our picks and our youths, but we desperately need someone that can spell significant minutes from KG and PP. and Green/Bass/Sullinger would be a great fit ig KG were playing PF. But he’s our center, so far.
Can you imagine Doc playing Melo 20 minutes per game? PP and KG can’t play more than 30 mins per game, but will Doc trust the rookies? if not, we’re in for another delusional season.

Yes, I can see Melo getting 20 mins or GS if he comes back. Our starting 5 works because we don’t need the classic center as that has changed in the league. Only DH, Bynum, and Perk are true centers of the old mold. Most now can go out and shoot from 15-17′. KG has advantages over all other centers as he plays away from the basket so well. what we truly need are rebounders and a FOCUS on rebounding this season. We have KG, Bass, Sullinger, Melo, JJ, and maybe GS. I’d like to see Wilcox back as he played well for us. And I hope MP gets a return as well. I like our team and if we can get Lee then we’ll give fits to the Heat and Bulls instead of struggling to win games against each. And Doc has to play the rookies and hopefully does so to help cut the mins of our starters to save them for the Finals when games count more. Go Cs…
