Raja Bell intrigued by Boston Celtics, among others, he says

The Boston Celtics have bigger fish to fry than Raja Bell right now. But the free agent wouldn’t mind playing his home games at the TD Garden next season. (Salt Lake Tribune)

Bell’s already drawn interest from several clubs since free agency began July 1, and he acknowledged teams such as Miami, Boston and the Los Angeles Lakers are interesting to him. He would not specify which organizations have recently shown interest, though, since his buyout had previously not been made public and he wants to respect the Jazz’s role in the process.

Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski reported Sunday that Bell has interest in returning to his hometown Heat, while the Lakers are a legitimate possibility.

The bi-annual exception might work for Bell, 35, who averaged 6.4 points last season for the Utah Jazz while shooting 46.6 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from the 3-point arc. (Note: Since the Celtics badly need a backup center, their bi-annual exception might have to be used in that way.) Though Danny Ainge seems to remain transfixed on the long shot chance of adding either Courtney Lee or O.J. Mayo, someone like Bell — who’s professional, works his ass off and possesses a career 3-point percentage above 40 percent — might be more realistic given Boston’s salary cap situation and lack of legitimate assets to surrender in a sign-and-trade.

Given Bell’s age and recent injury record — he hasn’t played 70 games in a full season since 2007-08 and only managed 34 games played last season — he’s not at all perfect. But he’s a realistic target, he’s a winner, and he ain’t half bad.

Yes, sorry. But I read awhile back that the bi-annual still exists and we can use it this year. Go Cs…

“• 2011 CBA: Taxpaying teams have a smaller midlevel exception, can acquire less salary in trade, and cannot use the biannual exception. Starting in 2013-14, teams more than $4 million above the tax level cannot receive a player in a sign-and-trade transaction.”

See under option #1…it’s been consistently stated that the Cs have their bi-annual exception to use.
