Ainge hints Celtics could be approaching sign-and-trade
It’s just three words hyphenated into one, but at this stage of the offseason the term “sign-and-trade” has become the Boston Celtics’ holy grail. If they can secure a sign-and-trade to land Jason Terry, they can use the mid-level exception on another free agent, possibly Courtney Lee. If they can secure a sign-and-trade to land Lee, they can use the mid-level exception on Terry and still have one of the best — if not the best — reserve guard tandems in the NBA.
The Celtics’ press conference to introduce their new acquisitions on Saturday morning started more than an hour late, and Danny Ainge admitted it was due to his quest to finalize a — say it with me, now! — sign-and-trade. He said things are moving forward and he feels happy with the way the offseason is headed. Terry and Jeff Green remain unsigned. Terry, clearly, because the Celtics are trying to acquire him without needing to use their MLE. Green, I assume, in case the Celtics need to slightly decrease his contract in order to make space they might need to sign (or re-sign) free agents. Both of the players will be Celtics one day soon. The only question is whether the Celtics can assume more contract flexibility by accomplishing creative acquisitions.
Sign-and-trade, people. It is Ainge’s best chance to make the Celtics even more formidable. It is the final horcrux for which they are searching to complete a successful offseason (sorry for the Potter reference, non-Harry Potheads). It is the Celtics’ best friend.
(Note: I am attending a friends’ graduation party later today, so if any news comes today I will likely be unable to post my thoughts. My sincerest apologies.)

Thanks Jay for the update. Love the S&T, as it going to insure we are one bad-ass team capable of multiple banners going forward to close out KG’s and PP’s careers. Hope you can at least post news if it happens and please don’t let a few cocktails or girls impede your responsibilities to notify us C-Towners. No commentary needed just the facts! Have as good a day as our team apparently is having. DA is working his HP magic. Go Cs…get Lee and f*** the Heat and Judas.
