Jason Terry sign-and-trade options exhausted; Boston Celtics ready to use MLE on him
While I’m hoping this is Danny Ainge’s last-ditch attempt to convince teams to line up and beg for Keyon Dooling, I’m not going to hold my breath. The Celtics will almost certainly use the MLE on Terry, leaving them to beg Houston’s Daryl Morey to consider a sign-and-trade that would send Courtney Lee to Boston. Since Morey doesn’t want to add any payroll (see: the amnesty of Luis Scola) and the Celtics obviously can’t find a third team to facilitate a sign-and-trade (damn it), acquiring Lee now seems less likely than observing a Charlotte Bobcats title in 2013.
It sucks, but the Celtics are likely going to have to turn the page on their Lee interest.

Until Lee signs elsewhere it’s not over. Go Cs…great team even if we lose out on Lee!

So if we somehow trade Dooling for Lee, what do we get? A pretty good guard. What do we lose? A decent backup for Rondo who also happens to be it seems, the world’s leading expert at mentoring Rondo.
Do you still not understand that you cannot simply measure a player’s value to the team by baskets scored, or even by various permutations of ‘advanced statistics’? Do you still not get it that life is bigger than numbers?
Dooling was a key to our team’s spirit last year, and a key to Rondo’s amazing growth as a leader over the course of a very difficult season. And you want to get rid of him.
Wake the heck up. If we have Lee, that makes us better in some ways, but if Rondo implodes, what does that do to us?
