Greg Stiemsma signs with Minnesota Timberwolves

Restricted free agent center Greg Stiemsma has come to terms with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Despite Greg Stiemsma’s departure, I’ll always brag about the time he blocked 25 shots in one game while simultaneously giving a piggyback to an elephant and making love to Mila Kunis.

The Celtics still need a backup big man, badly, and preferably one with a propensity for boxing out and blocking shots. They’re so desperate for size I just thought to myself, “Maybe Ben Wallace would help?”

I wish GS well, but he has no cojones going to play for such a weak team. Cash isn’t always the best option and I just think GS set his career back. Go Cs…who’s next????

He wants to play near home and he’s getting paid. He’s 27 this might be the biggest payday he gets in his career, set it back? LOL this IS his career put the hateorade down.

I don’t think I was ‘hating’ on him. I was just saying he’d get paid with us, learn MORE, get a chance at a ring and then could get paid more because his hoops knowledge would be better. He could have focused on rebounding, which we need and he was in the primary rotation. Now he gets to play with a rebuilding (yet again) team and Kevin Love will get all the rebs. So who is he going to learn from? Darko’s replacement? Go Cs…

He has already had a year with KG…so now he can get more input…this is his first decent pay day as a pro.

It still hasn’t been reported how much he’s getting. We could over about $2MM with the biannual. Do you think he’ll ever get a title with Minn??? I don’t. Go Cs…

We could have traded for him when we had more assets that were trade bait. Either way, I’m surprised at how everyone’s forgetting how Wilcox is 2x better than a combo of Hollins, Steimsma and Johnson.

Guys listen…I’d seriously consider putting Lee in the starting lineup. Better offensively, more size, better from the free throw line…slightly less intimidating defensively, but overall a much better SG. Bradley deserved the starting role last year, but Lee would be awesome in the starting lineup. And what role does Jason Terry play? We have 3 SG’s all who could start. I say put Terry in the reserve PG role and see where that goes.

He’ll start until AB comes back. I like AB starting because of his lock-down defense which is so important in the beginning of games. We were killed in the first qtrs last year until he started. He shuts down the opposing star SG and our interior defense can then do the same with the ‘paint’. We just need to rebound better and hopefully Doc will make that a major point of emphasis during camp. JT is RR’s back-up and I think we’ll see JT and CL together with the 2nd unit starting the second qtr each game. It’s going to be awesome as our interchangeable parts lead to so many different combinations depending on what we’re facing. Our defense is going to be the best in the league and our offense is vastly improved. Go Cs…

I agree with the changing of the guard (pun intended) at the beginning of quarters. You’ve probably noticed how we gave up leads at the beginning of quarters last year because of dooling and whoever else was playing with him. I love your rotation idea because that way we can build on leads that we achieve with our starters out there. I also say we save our bi-annual for someone who is cut from another trade that happens in the future. I do love the new flexibility we have with our lineups now, I just like to have clear-cut roles for each and every player. No need for players to be unsure of their roles. our ’08 and ’10 teams had clearly defined roles for each player. We’ll need that next year.

Agreed. Just as long as we stay healthy then our options are ridiculous as we’re going to be 14-15 deep. I agree too with saving the biannual until waiver time. I’ll give Doc credit re roles as he’s pretty good about that but he needs to use everybody including Fab and KJ. Go Cs…

So now we have a bench of Terry, Lee, Green, Wilcox, Sullinger, Melo, Christmas, and Joseph. I’ll admit we could use another big in case Sullinger isn’t ready to produce or if Doc isn’t satisfied with his practice performance, but if Sully is able to back up Brandon Bass, then our lineup looks like
    Rondo, Terry, Christmas
Bradley, Lee, Terry (When Bradley struggles on any given night)
Pierce, Green, Joseph (The best SF rotation in the league)
Bass, Sullinger, Wilcox (if Sully isn’t producing on any given night)
KG, Wilcox (Better than any rotation at the 5 last year)
THAT’s the best lineup we’ve had since 2008.

Also, Green could play the 4, and possibly even start if we want to go small and athletic.

I believe it’s way better. We’re a legitimate 15 deep with possibly MP or KD being the ‘lessor’ players. That’s just outright sick and I can’t wait for games to start. Go Cs…

    @CPUFC
Are you telling me that guys like Jajuan Johnson and Greg Steimsma deserve more faith than Courtney Lee and Jeff Green? That’s abject insanity. Steimer blocked a few shots, but he was slow on rotations and didn’t rebound well for a dude his size. Johnson barely did anything and looked lost on offense and defense. THAT’s why Doc didn’t play him. He trusted Moore more so than Johnson. and tell me any young player we’ve had in the past 5 years that have become better on other teams when they received more playing time. Remember, we don’t have time for projects and “potential”. We need players who can impact on jump street. Don’t bring me Gerald Green because he’s still one-dimensional and below average on defense. I could make the case that Sully is the best rook we’ve had since Rondo was drafted (with the 21st selection, ironically enough). Doc knows that KG and Pierce need to be nursed this year more than anything as well, so expect Green and Wilcox to be EXTREMELY important to our regular season success. If the Atlantic division title run gets tight then we’ll definitely need to lean on our stars though.

OK, good points you have made and yeah, you know your hoops. I think it’s great you feel the new guys are going to make a sudden impact. My concern with JG is his health and when he is healthy I know for a FACT he is better than GS and as far as CL goes sure, he is a great player, far better than what we saw in JJ (although I still believe he will develop into a great player as will EM)and I am happy to have him @ the C’s. To answer your question, Luke Harangody’s numbers went up when he went to the Cavs and when him and Erden left even Garnett was upset to see those guys go. Cavs (thanks to the Lyin King going to the CHEAT) were a crap team sure but LH’s numbers did go up, that is FACT. And then don’t get me started on the Perkins/Nate trade that every 1 thought was a bust. Not putting faith in GS and JJ over JG and CL. However, I think GS and JJ were more capable then we give them credit for. And it does worry me the fact we gave JG a $36 mil contract when he aint played in a year due to a life threatening injury. Our team lacks height, height that GS and JJ would have given us and that is my primary concern with their departure. I know we have gained a lot with these new guys but the “sudden impact” remains to be seen when most of em ain’t played a reg season game. When it does happen best believe I will be as happy as you and every other CT blogga.

Yeah I do think JJJ and Moore have talent but they need more opportunity and time than we were willing or capable to give. And you’re also forgetting Wilcox, who can take the scoring that Johsnon would have provided along with the defense that Steimsma provided. It’s almost a win-win because they get a chance to show the world what they can actually do, and we get guys who are already proven. I see your concern regarding team chemistry, I’ve been concerned with it as well. But as far as talent goes, it’s not even close. But with a guy named Rondo, EVERYBODY’S job is a little easier. Expect Wilcox, green, and Lee to have huge years.

Forgive me guys for playing Devil’s Advocate just not getting carryed away yet with our new lineup. Damn str8 it’s looking good. The powers that be must manage these guys minutes properly or we will run into the same probs we have in the past. These new bunch need to send the league a message, the NEW Boston Celtics are here to claim the OLD glory. Yo Jay, did you say something bout big bad Ben Wallace. Hell muthaf–kin yeeeahh. That’s the kick ass player that this team needs to cap off a busy offseason. I’d love to see that guy go at it with MWP again…and be a good choice to solve the rebounding issue.

MWP? And Ben Wallace isn’t the NBA 2K5 cover athlete Ben Wallace anymore. He’s an absolute shell. I say we just save our bi-annual until some team makes a trade and then cuts a big man.

Talk about shells, would you prefer Wallace(9.6 career reb or Collins(3.9)? Come to think of it, JC gives us the size that I was hoping. Hell, I don’t care if he can’t put up Patrick Ewing numbers just a big body who has ability to rebound is good enuff. Hopefully, JC gives us what we want although his stats ain’t much to go by. And for the record, I think Wallace would beat MWP’s ass anyday of the week. Feels like it’s 04 all over again.

So what, we still have our bi annual to use? And yeah Id have to say that this is the first “miss” of Danny’s offseason. I haven’t seen any tape of him yet, but of he’s truly a defensive minded guy, then it’s not a complete waste. At this point its end of the bench talent anyway.

Kg, Bass and Wilcox can hold their own. If Jeff Green and Pierce contributes on the boards we will be fine. As for the 3 SG problem; maybe Bradley should learn to play the point, and let Lee/Terry handle the 2 Guard spot.
