Keyon Dooling re-signs with Boston Celtics

In a somewhat unexpected move the Celtics have re-signed Keyon Dooling for one year at the veteran minimum:

Keyon Dooling has agreed to a one-year deal to return to the Celtics, per a league source.

Dooling will likely play a much smaller role than he did last year given the Celtics already crowded backcourt. While Dooling might be spending more than a few nights in a suit, he’ll serve as the teams chemist and a veteran presence at the point if Rondo is injured during the season. This news does not bode well for Jamar Smith as the Celtics now have 16 players on their roster and Smith’s unguarenteed contract will likely be the first to go, pending an exceptional training camp.

Let’s see at least one game of Collins before we start an official “cut Collins” bandwagon. That said, I hope KD’s game is more consistent next year so that he can be our 3rd string PG and SG. (2nd string SG till Bradley gets back).

With 13 spots with guaranteed contracts and Joseph and Xmas getting rave reviews, and likely guaranteed deals, that leaves MP out and so I’d rather cut Collins, as I know what MP brings and don’t want another lame 3/1 center with no offense. Just me. Go Cs…

Yeah, I think that’s crazy talk. Collins is a perfect third string center. Cut him and suddenly we are very short on bigs.

KG, CW and Fab at center with BB and Sullinger at PF aren’t enough for you? And losing MP is also OK? Go Cs…

Collins would be the only true NBA center we have. Fab is not a proven NBA player and the rest are PF that true centers like Dwight Howard and Bynum can push aside.

The chance of facing DH in a Finals will only happen if he’s traded to LA, which would then lose Bynum. DH can’t guard KG and if everyone rebounds then we’ll be OK. MP can defend the likes of LBJ and does so much more than what little Collins brings. The league is no longer a ‘centers’ oriented league. It’s about guards and wings and MP, to me, is more useful as such. Go Cs…

And Fab will be ready by the time the playoffs roll around. Go Cs…cut Collins, sign MP!

The Celtics consider Fab to be a project. Scouting reports indicate that he lacks basic, fundamental skills. With only 6 years of total experience he is a player searching for his game. No one thinks he is a legitimate NBA Center yet. You are always harping about rebounds and yet you think height is irrelevant.

Have you ever watched Fab? I watched all the SU games I could last yr and he has talent, great footwork (former soccer player), can rebound, and takes charges. Also, he’s a very good passer. Yes, he needs work, but given KG as a mentor and playing against the players we have I believe you and everyone else will be surprised at how fast he develops. Rebounding comes from boxing out and effort. Just ask 6’6 Charles Barkley who averaged almost 12 rebs a game for his career. Ht is good but it is also over-rated with a lot of players. Leon Powe was a great rebounder, so was Rodman and both were 6’8″. They FOCUSED on rebounding, just as Sullinger plans to. We have plenty of height and rebounders but Doc has to talk about it and focus on it. Go Cs…

Doc was the one that said Fab was a project. Who I am to believe? A poster or the coach? I hope he develops as fast as you think. Even first round picks fail to transition to the NBA.

Did I not say he needs work? Of course he’s a project, as he is very young to hoops. But give him camp, KG’s mentoring, playing in games and by next May he’s probably no longer a ‘project’. I asked if you ever watched him in college because if you had you would see he has more talent than Collins ever had and I believe he’ll be better than Perk (when KP was younger as he has fallen off and sucks now). And Doc ALWAYS down plays any young player, as evidenced by his dumb policy of not playing them. Go Cs…

The Nets fans believe they’re gonna win it all next year…I can’t believe I’m even paying attention to them. Yup, summer is in full effect.

The Nets have NO chance next year. I say give JC a break and wait until the season starts to see what he brings to the table. At least he has NBA Finals although it was about 10 years ago. With the flurry of great players we have this season, lets just be thankful for that.

Those fools at Blog a Bull think that Derrick Rose is at least 10x better than Rondo…Yeah okay lol. The Bulls will never win a championship with that core.

Dooling is a key guy. It’s not just about what a guy does on the court.

They want that MVP play from Rondo 24/7. WIth a guy like Dooling in his corner that just might happen.

If he’s not going to play then just hire him as RR’s mentor and give his spot to MP who will play and effectively so. Go Cs…

Im not all the way sold on Sullinger producing as a backup out the gate. He’s certainly NBA-ready, but he’s gonna be a sight for sore eyes early on, and I’m afraid that if he doesn’t produce then that will cause problems in our rotation. And Melo could potentially be even better than Sullinger based on his knack for picking up concepts faster, but do we really have that kind of time?
