Michael Pietrus “Will Not Play For The Veteran’s Minimum”, According To A Report
“MP will not play for the veteran’s minimum. Period,” said McCandless. “It’s not happening. That’s the beginning, middle and end of that. … He is not a veteran’s minimum player. There’s no chance he’ll ever sign for that.”
According to McCandless, Pietrus has already received much better offers from another NBA team and a club overseas. The most the Celtics could offer is the bi-annual exception starting at $1.95 million, but I don’t see why they would spend that valuable money on Pietrus, who would be nothing better than an insurance policy for Avery Bradley, Jeff Green, and the other wings ahead of him in the rotation. Danny Ainge would be better off spending the bi-annual exception on a frontcourt player who can contribute with defense and rebounding.
Pietrus was a valuable player for the Celtics last season until he sustained that vicious concussion and returned at less than full strength, while also dealing with a knee injury. While his defense was valuable, Pietrus shot just 22.2% on three-pointers in the playoffs. Pietrus was a happy-go-lucky guy who helped build up his teammates and the locker room environment, and, in that capacity, he will certainly be missed.

Use the vets minimum on Keyon Dooling for extra insurance in the backcourt and save the bi-annual exception for a rainy day or a decent front-court player.

I liked MP a lot but we just don’t need him, great guy though. About the BAE, I think Ainge should just pocket it, there isn’t any worth while rebounding big avaliable & I frankly don’t think we need anything right now other than camp invites.

Yeah I hate to see dude leave but if Pietrus wants more money, I’m sure he’ll find something. I LOVE Pietrus, and if every teammate was like him, the NBA would have far less drama and prima donas. Ainge needs to make that last phone call directly to Pietrus before its final. Doc too.

There are no other “front-court players/rebounders” as we just scrapped Collins off that poop pile. I love MP and would consider using the BA on him. I also love Xmas’ game, but I’d rather have MP and his defense vs LBJ (on an injured knee that took surgery to fix) and his overall game than KD or any other stiff out there. Go Cs…

Collins isn’t invisible yknow…I mean, our offseason could be a LOT worse, like the Bulls offseason for instance:

Good lord those fans are mad! And for some odd reason, every Bulls fan HATES Rondo. Wonder why…

WHen I say “isn’t invisible” I mean he could clog the middle and is actually not a bad “help defense” defender.

Supposedly he’s a very good defender, but if he can’t/won’t rebound, has no offense…then really what’s the point? Go Cs…get MP!

Well we can fix “won’t” but not “can’t”. Plus he’s tough and doesn’t take any ish. That sound like a team you know?

Looks like KD is signed and is getting the last spot. sorry to see MP get squeezed out. I’d rather have him than Collins. Doc better fix ‘won’t’ with all the Cs and concentrate on rebounding this season. Go Cs…we’re loaded for ’12-’13!!!

This really sickens me because Mickael Pietrus was an important piece to the Celtics success, and his value to this season’s team could be great as well with his defense and tremendous spirit and attitude. The Celtics should at least offer him the bi-annual exception and show him the respect he deserves. Boston cannot afford to lose tBhis guy in my opinion. They will regret it, and though finding a rebounder might be important, they would be giving up a lot for that possibility. This is BS from my point of view and really confirms that this organization just does not understand what its priorities should be. Come on Danny and Doc. Show me that you GET IT!!!

like mp he was huge last year when ab went down and pierce was not 100%. but we have green this year and hopefully a healthy pierce he wont be as valuable. he was a great defender and a below average offensive player, if we didnt pick up solid offensive guys for our bench then he would be missed much more , but i rather see the minutes he got last year played by green, lee , terry , etc.

You’ve made some valid points, but I would like to say that Mickael Pietrus is a much better player than he showed last season, and with a training camp and having a more normal season, and being more healthy, we all would see a much better player than last season. He is actually invaluable in many ways, and once his offense gets going, he’s a tremendous asset to have on your team, so it’s not wise to give him up. Also, he has playoff experience. Their bench would be so much stronger with MP there, so we all better hope he’s back. This guy is way to valuable to lose if we want to have a realistic chance at a championship!

I could not disagree more with the conclusion that Mickael Pietrus is not valuable enough to spend the bi-annual exception on. That is completely erroneous thinking. Pietrus brings tremendous value to the Celtics with his defense and versatility, and believe it or not, they need depth at the 3 because even with Jeff Green, only Kris Joseph is behind him, and if Paul Pierce goes out, they need more than a rookie to back-up Green. Also, with Avery Bradley to miss the start of the season, they need more depth at the 2-guard, which Pietrus can do. And lets not forget that Jeff Green has not played significant basketball in a while, so as good as he will hopefully be, it’s still putting a lot on him without another veteran small forward. I do hope the Celtics will offer MP the BE, and I hope and pray he accepts and then I will be very excited about the upcoming season. If things don’t work out and Mickael Pietrus cannot sign with the Celtics, I would be deeply disappointed and mad. Pietrus is a Celtic, and he wants to be here, and the Celtics need him. If it’s all about money and he won’t sign for the minimum, and for some reason Boston refuses to use the Biannual Exception, they are being foolish to think they could get more. If MP does not sign that would be a huge loss, and it’s not like the BE is such a big amount above the veterans minimum. This is a no brainer. Celtics should offer the BE to MP and hope to God he signs it. Thanks!

With Dooling’s signing today there are no more spots left, as we’re now at 15. That includes Joseph and Xmas getting guaranteed deals. Now I would think MP would beat Xmas out in camp but it seems the Cs are leaning towards keeping the players they have now. Again, I’d can Collins in favor of MP as I think Melo will be able to help as will CW of course. Just too much good talent on this new Cs team. Go Cs…sign MP and cut Collins!

I liked the attitude MP brought to the Celtics. If I was DA, I would offer vets minimum, a chance to play for the GODS of the NBA and alongside his buddy KG. Sounds like a good deal to me. Hey MP guaranteed a title to Boston, at least he could come back and make good on his promise.

So what is the point of having 6 freaking guards again? (Rondo, Bradley, Terry, Lee, Dooling, Christmas)That’s absurd. We could have used another big man or something.

Yeah, dont know why we even talkin bout MP with that many guards. MD and RH mustve got waived because I aint heard nuttin bout em…I guess well end out doing the same to MP if they are happy with the lineup. Agreed, another big man would be more important if we have room for one.

I think MD’s as good as gone cus Terry has his number. Hollins is with the Clippers now. But those guys are trash so whatev haha. I just don’t get why we have to be like 10 deep at the 1 and 2

Because there ain’t crap for rebounding forwards or centers left out there. I don’t mind the six guards but again, I’d prefer MP over Collins as he can defend, likes to rebound, can drive, and can hit the 3…although his injuries obviously hurt his performance last season. Go Cs…let’s skip Aug. & Sept. and get to camp!
