Jared Sullinger’s new nickname: Smokey the Swag Bear

Three things to take from the video above:

  1. Jared Sullinger said he was 4-foot-11 at the age of four. He also seemed to agree that he played in a league against 12-year olds before he reached kindergarten. I’m calling B.S. — only Bigfoot and Gheorge Muresan were 4-foot-11 by the age of four, and Muresan couldn’t hold his own against 12-year olds until he reached his 20s.
  2. The Celtics summer league team, led by Craig Brackins, called Sullinger “Smokey the Swag Bear.” No commentary needed.
  3. Sullinger said he would start Charles Barkley at point guard on his all-time team. I love the rookie for Boston’s second unit, and I think he has the potential to become a quality starter (and maybe better) in the Association. But I hope nobody ever makes him a GM or coach. He’d make Don Nelson look traditional.

Absolutely, and if you ever watched him he could indeed have played the point. The ’round mound of rebound’ was incredibly fast, agile and was also a great passer. Since he was really about 6’4 1/2″ he’d have been a perfect nightmare for other PGs to handle. Can you imagine??? Go Cs…love Sullinger’s hoops knowledge and effort in every game!

I remember him in the 80ies, playing in Philly. When he got bored he started bouncing the ball around the 3 point line, and then went straight to the hoop for a dunk. And by “straight” I mean straight.
during the regular season nobody thought that drawing a charge foul on him was worth 1 week of bruises.
      lol.

He’s one of my all-time fav players. He just flat out loved the game. He wanted every rebound and gave 100% plus every game, even against the worst teams. I rooted for him in Philly (remember Toney’s 25 pt 4th qtr vs the Cs in the playoffs…he was awesome, too) and especially in Phoenix as they had such a great team with KJ (remember his dunk?) and their series vs the Bulls and MJ. He really deserved a ring but just faced more talented teams. He is such a great ambassador for hoops too. Thank God he’s on TNT. Go Cs…

Hopefully Sullinger can mold his game after Barkley. He’s my fave CNN guy because he’s honest.

Could you de-politicize your name? Sports is one of the few arenas where we can forget those differences for a little while.
