Avery Bradley: “Whenever I need to be ready, I’ll be ready” (translation: “I’m not sure when”)

The way Avery Bradley tells it, he possesses the ability to return from injury on command. The Boston Celtics guard, who underwent two separate shoulder surgeries during the offseason, says he’ll be ready whenever the Celtics need him to be. Sadly, that’s untrue. They needed him against the Miami Heat and he was unable to return to the lineup. Damn it.

Bradley hasn’t ruled out a return a training camp return, but could be out until January, and wouldn’t say one way or the other during an interview with ESPN Boston’s Chris Forsberg today.

“For any athlete, especially me being a young athlete, it’s hard for me to not to be able to wake up every day and play the game of basketball,” said Bradley, who visited the Dill family Tuesday to unveil the first of three home court makeover as part of a promotion with RE/MAX of New England. “It’s hard for me. I just have to take it day by day and let my body heal itself.”

But he patiently answers each question about his future and when exactly he’ll be ready, saying: “I’m just preparing to help my team. Whenever I need to be ready, I’ll be ready.”

“I feel great,” said Bradley. “But I’m just taking it day by day. I’m trying to get healthy, so that I’m ready for my team.”

Pressed on his rehab, he said only, “I do whatever the trainers tell me I can do, and my doctors. I just take it day by day, don’t try to rush, and just let it heal.”

As Chuck from Red’s Army notes, Bradley’s being quite a bit Belichickian. Either that, or he actually has no flipping idea when he might be ready to return to the court.

If you are correct and knows he is either a liar or disingenuous depending on your point of view. It is already stated that he will miss at least 1 month of the season…where are you getting your information?

I have no info, but logic tells me that he has the rest of Aug., all of Sept. & Oct., pretty much, before opening the season Oct. 30th in oder to heal and be ready. I’ll respect all the ‘predictors’ opinions much more after he shows up to camp and the doctors can evaluate where he is health wise. He’s really young and may just heal faster than say a 28-32 yr old player? Who knows, but to say he’ll be out X months several months before the first game considering the pain levels he played through doesn’t make sense to me. It’s not a knee injury so let’s wait and see. im just curious, why is there talk about delfino but not the birdman? we can definitely use some size and rebounding and i know hes a bit of a headcase but id much much rather have him coming off the bench to play center than collins melo and maybe even wilcox. we can throw wilcox back in as a pf.

Legal issues Birdman is facing in Denver are likely the reason no one is approaching him. Go Cs…
