Wade Glad Heat Got Allen, Trolls Celtics
From the good people at WEEI, we now have this quote from Dwyane Wade:
“When you get a chance to add one of the best shooters in history, the best 3-point shooter in history, and you’re adding him and making your team better while at the same time hurting one of your biggest rivals, you’re pretty happy when it works out.”
A few comments. First, congratulations to the Yankees Heat for getting their man in Ray Allen. We hope he ages 30 years in one offseason wish him the best, and we hope he retires cold and ringless next season will certainly miss his contributions.
Bring Dwyane Wade with you, jerkface.
Wade’s comments are fair, of course. If the Celtics managed to get a key contributor from the Lakers or Heat, we would be crowing about it. There has never been any love to lose between the Heat and the Celtics. Even before LeBron turned Miami into a contender, the teams skirmished in the 2010 playoffs, a scuffle which some people credited for waking the Celtics up as a team for their run to the Finals (a bogus claim, but that’s not why we are here).
All that being said, we wouldn’t expect Wade to be a disciple of the advanced statistics that say Boston might actually be better off without Ray Allen because Allen’s absence allows more offensive focus on Garnett, Rondo, and even Pierce. We wouldn’t expect Wade to look at Boston’s replacements and think “Hmm, they might be better off going with their new pieces, especially that one guy who I can’t really score against.” Even if Wade did think Boston got better, we wouldn’t expect him to verbalize that to the national media. So his comments, though trollish, likely mean nothing.
Just like his face.
But we would like to point out that Wade knows quite a bit about hurting his rivals.
