The more I read about Boston Celtics assistant general manager Mike Zarren, the more upset I get that the Celtics are likely to lose him, if not this year then in the near future.
Zarren is a Harvard law graduate, who is known for his state-of-the-art replay system where players can instantly access highlights of the opposition. Furthermore he is know as the Celtics’ “salary cap and collective bargaining agreement expert” (http://www.vermontlaw.edu/students/x8291.xml) and regularly speaks at the M.I.T. Sloan Conference, where new statistical ways to analyze the game of basketball are presented to GMs and coaches across the world.
Some other important information:
- Danny Ainge calls Zarren his “secret weapon”
- Pierce calls him “M.I.T.” in spite of Zarren never attending
- KG calls him “Numbers”
Sounds like it would be a big hit to the Celtics if he ends up winning and taking the job with Philadelphia. It is nice to see that people like Zarren get recognition once and a while for their great work. The video room guys and statistics guys can be some of the differences between good NBA teams and great ones. Best of luck to Zarren wherever he may land.
