Kevin Garnett says he will retire as a Celtic, whenever he chooses to retire

Confirming a belief that has been much talked about here on Celticstown, Kevin Garnett has recently confirmed to Chinese reporters (via hoopshype), “I will retire a Celtic for sure”.

Kevin Garnett is currently under a three year contract which will take him until the age of 39.  To give an idea of the shelf life of an NBA player, Steve Nash is 38 and Juwan Howard is 39.  While the latter is a living dinosaur, the first is an important piece of what the Lakers hope is a championship team.  KG could very well retire at the end of his contract and still be effective up until his last blocked shot after the whistle.

KG confirming that the Celtics team will be his last also means he can truly unload all of the knowledge he has acquired over the years on the younger members of the Celtics.  The benefactors: Jared Sullinger, Fab Melo, among others are some of the most fortunate people in the NBA; all they have to do is listen to tap one of the NBA’s deepest knowledge wells.

Overall good news for the Celtics, and another banner would increase the chances of number five hanging in the rafters.

Another banner or not, KG’s #5 definitely deserves to hang in the rafters, as his presence has changed the Celtic’s fortunes and culture. Hopefully, that single fact will live on for the next 20+ years, as KG embodies the ‘soul’ of what it means to be a Celtic. I know, as I’ve watched the Cs since I was 8 yrs old and am working on year #51. Go Cs…love KG!!!

No question. KG’s no 5 is will def be hanging in TD Garden’s rafters. My only hope is that he passes the torch to the next generation and produces KG type caliber players. KG is 1 of the top big men that the C’s have ever had. Damn straight, Judas has gotta go from the CT banner. Unfortunate but true as he is no long with us which is a shame how he chose our enemy over his Celtic brothers. I never knew he had it in him…
