Kris Joseph dunked on Fab Melo and didn’t mind telling the world
Joseph could have dunked on Melo and kept it a secret, leaving the former Big East Defensive Player of the Year’s reputation intact. Instead he shared the incident with ESPN Boston reporter Greg Payne, which is similar to telling a 14-year old high school girl a secret (note: I don’t think I’m comparing Payne to an adolescent female, but maybe I am).
The smaller point is this: KRIS JOSEPH DUNKED ON FAB MELO!!!!
The bigger points are these:
A) Joseph has some athleticism. We saw this in action during summer league, when Joseph routinely impressed, leaving, um, certain people smitten with his talent. Rarely does a player get drafted with the 51st pick after leading the No. 2-ranked college team in scoring, but Joseph topped Syracuse in points per game before slipping late into the second round of June’s draft. He’s long and he can contribute in many ways, one of which appears to be dunking on his former Syracuse teammate.
B) Melo tried to block a dunk in a meaningless pickup game. This might be significant, since there’s nothing more cowardly than ducking in the opposite direction while an athletic opponent swoops through the paint with the ball cocked back in his right hand. The Celtics drafted Melo hoping he will one day become their rim protector. If he’s willing to risk getting dunked on to save a bucket in an offseason 5-on-5 game, he probably won’t turn the other way during the third quarter of a regular season outing. If my extrapolations are correct, this is a good thing. The best shot blockers are willing to risk posters and YouTube infamy on a routine basis to try to swat otherwise easy attempts. Hopefully, Melo’s more like Alonzo Mourning than Chris Bosh.

Seriously though. K-Mart and KG patrolling the paint? That’s not enticing to you guys? If either one gets beat down low (by guys like Carmelo, Stoudinire, LEBRON) then the other would be there for help defense. There’s no one on this team capable of down-low help defense like K-Mart.

I believe K-Mart is done. We have plenty of talent and I’d rather BB, CW, Sullinger, Fab and even Collins get the minutes before adding a player that would just lead to a cut, as we already have 16 players. So who do you cut to take K-Mart? Joseph (no way), Fab? Xmas? Just saying…Go Cs…
