Garnett is staying at center

If there were any doubts, Doc Rivers made it clear this morning to reporters this morning:

#Celtics coach Doc Rivers on Kevin Garnett: He will remain at center whether he likes it or not; think he'll be good with it.

The 6’13″ Kevin Garnett was forced to the five last year after the loss (loss?) of Jermaine O’Neal and thrived there. While the East has quite a few talented big-men, few can match the combination of size, speed, and skills Garnett still offers at this stage of his career. Expect Garnett to be locked in at the position aside from a select few matchups (Bynum comes to mind) where Jason Collins and Darko will try and absorb some of the banging down low.

I actually don’t really love this move because KG is most valuable in the offseason. the regular season will break him down physically and if he isn’t 100% come April, we’re in SERIOUS trouble.I understand he has enough heart and drive for 1,000 cowards, but I don’t want to depend on Wilcox and Darko Milicic to be KG in the offseason. Limit KG’s minutes big time(especially from December-Feb) and let those old bones rest.

I love the move, or staying with what has worked just great, as KG draws out centers and opens the lanes. I do agree his minutes during the season should be cut to say 30-35 max and let our other players step up. When we face the Lakers in the Finals and DH is guarding KG away from the basket then this strategy will once again pay off big-time. The others also need to all rebound better this season as that will help this KG as center strategy work the most efficiently. Can’t wait. Go Cs…bring on the f’in Heat!!!
