Pierce says knee is ’100 percent now’
For the aging veterans this season it will be a battle against health– and this season Pierce is starting healthy, hopefully he finishes the same way (ESPNboston)
“I’m 100 percent now,” Pierce said at the team’s annual media day. “But I think it was maybe Game 3 (against) Atlanta. … It really limited me because it was like no treatment that I could have done at the time was going to get it better. It limited me as far as lateral movement and jumping ability. Not that I had a lot of jumping ability anyway. And there’s times when you get up out of bed and it’s really stiff, you’ve got to get on the bike to warm it up. It was definitely a mental grind at that point. I’m just happy that’s behind me.”
More good news out of media day. I feel like I have finally awakened from a deep slumber into giddy ecstasy– and its only the beginning of training camp, October 30th, here I come.

what limited the C’s most last season was no back-up for PP.
I hope that moving Garnett at the 5 means that Green is coming up for Pierce and Sully for Bass. if otherwise, Doc wants to play small ball (Jet at the 2, CL at the 3, Green at the 4 adn Sully at the 5) I foresee trouble.

If they wanted to play small ball they could go with either KG, Bass, or Wilcox at the 5. All are capable of being effective in transition. I really think Darko will make a big improvement with the C’s.. Everyone calls him a bust which I can’t say I disagree with, but when the guy is burried on the bench on teams not in contention, and other players from your draft class becoming household names and stars, that could do a number on your ego. In Boston he’ll be on a playoff team, with veteran leaders, (KG, Doc) and the fans will get behind him (Very Scalabrine’esque) and I think he will surprise some people.

But that’s what help defense is all about. It’s what the C’s regularly employ. If you’re beat by your man one-on-one (think Lebron on Pierce or Green, DWade on Courtney Lee and Bradley) then there has to be a second line of defense because let’s face it, those guys can finish at the rim. I think Doc’s job is to find the right balance of straight up 1 on 1 defense and help defense based on the players the Heat have on the floor. When Judas is on the floor, whoever is playing the 2 spot should be playing zone no matter what. It’s not like Judas was 51% with a hand in his face. If we D him up nicely, we’ll be fine.

But a 3-pointer is 50% more pts than a lay-up and more of a crowd enhancer and adrenaline rush for a team. I’d rather take my chances with a player getting beat, as we have others that may clog the paint instead of leaving battier and Miller wide open with no one on them. We guard those guys and they don’t shoot 70% and we are in the Finals. We should dbl in the paint but never leave other team’s top 3-pt shooters alone EVER. Just my coaching 2-cents. Go Cs..

Dare I say Darko will make a difference? We now know that Kendrick Perkins was completely overrated and only looked good because he was playing next to KG. There is no reason, while in the same circumstance that Darko can’t be just as effective as KP. I am looking for this to be a bust out year for Darko.
