Ray Allen is all about business, apparently

"Don't you know ANYTHING about money, Rasheed Wallace?"

Note: Jay posted a calm, measured, thought-provoking response to Ray Allen’s comments earlier. You can read it here.

Don’t know if you guys heard about this, but the Celtics were really mean to Ray Allen, so fans should be nice to him and boo the team. After all, this whole “I get to sign a contract with whoever I want” situation was TOTALLY out of his control.

Are you confused? That’s ok. His point will make all of the sense when you see it in written form. This quote is from Deadspin:

It was a business decision and the team put me in the position where we had to move. We had to go. Miami was a better choice for us based on what the team was doing, so it wasn’t, don’t boo me, boo the team in a sense. Now it’s out of my control. … When this contract situation came down…nobody wanted me to re-sign in that situation because they thought, ‘There [is] so much left in you and this team isn’t taking care of you or treating you right.’ That’s the way I felt and it was like, if you are going to come and not put out a good contract on the table then, hey, we gotta think about going somewhere else.”

Ohhhh, now it makes sense. It was a business decision, it certainly wasn’t personal. I mean, Boston actually offered Allen twice as much as Miami, but he’s totally got a point. The Celtics, they just didn’t treat him right, man. If you aren’t going to put a good contract on the table for Ray to sign, he’s just going to go ferret out a worse contract, dammit, because that’ll show you for trying to overpay aging player. Don’t try to slip a fast one past ol’ Ray-Ray, offering him two years and $12 million. He’ll be in Miami making $6 million over two years, THANK YOU VERY MUCH, because he’s a businessman.

So don’t boo Ray Allen, guys. Boo the team. It wasn’t his choice to choose to sign with the Heat. His decision was totally out of his hands and not one bit personal.

Oh, and when you boo the team, do it loudest after Rondo’s name is announced in the starting lineup. You know, for business reasons.

I would praise him if he said he was tired of being traded every February and left on his own terms…. Speaking of trades if someone offered us Jason Terry and Courtney Lee for Ray Allen last year we would’ve taken it in a second, not to mention Barbosa in the deal. We are much better at the guard position now then we were with Benedict Allen, and TAKE HIM OFF THE BANNER NOW!

It’s sad, and a bit sickening, to see Allen flailing around trying to explain what he seems to have done in a fit of pique.
