Ray Allen speaks about Boston Celtics to Jackie MacMullan, doesn’t sound very sincere
Ray Allen gave an interview to Jackie MacMullan recently (read it if you haven’t), presumably so he could finally get all of his thoughts about the Boston Celtics off his chest and stop the media from badgering him about his past team on a daily basis.
I personally thought Ray’s comments reeked of insincerity and wrote several hundreds of words about it on MassLive, but you can read more of my thoughts in the following paragraphs.
– Ray said he will only remember Rondo for the good times. ”When you ask me about Rondo, the only thing I’m going to think of is the guy who came to the house asking for my mom’s lobster pasta. Those are the memories I have.”
Wait, allow me to stop laughing.
Keep waiting. Sorry, I’m doubled over in stomach pain now.
Okay.
Ray, if you were going to pretend like all you remember of Rondo are the good times, why settle for mom’s lobster pasta as the example? Why not remember the time you guys spent three straight days watching an All My Children marathon and then had to build a raft to paddle out of a river formed by your own tears? Or the time you walked together into a library holding hands, but needed to go to Barnes and Noble because the library didn’t have any more copies of Dear John?
Come on, Ray. We’re not stupid. Don’t treat us like we are. You and Rondo had beef. It helped lead you out of Boston. The end. No sappy excuses necessary.
– ”I don’t know why they [stopped using me] as much,” Allen said. “It’s hard to say. I look in ’08, we had such an amazing run. You look at guys like James Posey and P.J. Brown and Sammy [Cassell] and Leon [Powe]; we had so many players that understood their roles, and everyone just came in and did their part. It was ‘Don’t do too much; just do what you need to do to help the team win.’ And, as the years went by, there was less and less for me. Why? That’s a question you’d have to ask Doc.”
Must I even address this? We all saw Allen play last year. We all know how much better the Celtics became once Avery Bradley joined the starting lineup. Why? Because Ray was deteriorating and the Celtics were forced into evolving.
– According to Ray, who heard it “through back channels,” the Celtics almost traded him for Tracy McGrady in 2007-08. I have no information one way or the other, but T-Mac didn’t fit with the Celtics as well as Ray did. Ray’s shooting spaced the floor for Pierce’s slashing, which complemented Garnett’s well-rounded offensive repertoire quite well. I’ll stop here at risk of shedding a tear about the 2008 championship team, but if Ainge actually considered this deal, even before T-Mac became fully washed up, he was not acting intelligently.
– On what he’ll do when he sees the Celtics on opening night: ”I’m going to walk over and say, ‘What’s up?’ Those guys are my brothers.”
Sadly, he forgot to add, “And then KG’s going to tear off my head, which Rondo will throw like a football to Paul Pierce, who will slam dunk it through the hoop while Doc Rivers cheers on the sideline.”
Go read my piece at MassLive if you want more, guys. Methinks Ray Allen just needs to stop talking about the Celtics, no matter how many reporters ask him about his former team daily.

Judas is just being Judas. What did you expect? How about we start the season clean with him OFF THE BANNER, too? Go Cs…

He should take his championship ring and throw it in the bin. ”Miami was best for my family”. Are we expected to accept this crap. Boston WAS your family JUDAS and the site of your championship dreams. But one wasn’t enough. All the money you earned in the NBA and got offered by the C’s wasn’t enough. Being a future legend in the home of Bill Russell and the original dynasty wasn’t enough. For f–k’s sake, what more could you want? In basketball lore, it doesn’t get ANY better than the home of the 17 time champions and past Celtic legends even if you never won another title. But you threw it away for a team that is the most hated possibly ever in NBA history, and who you got absolutely violated by. Does anybody remember that block D Wade gave JUDAS on 12/28/11? Should drag that footage out. Say you’ll always be a Celtic and go and join Pat Riley, one of the most hated rivals of the C’s dating back to his tenure as coach with the Lakers. Heat No 34, you are now nothing more than a dirty mark on the wall of the Celtic museum and a reminder that Cain turned his back on his own brother. We loved you Heat No 34, you betrayed us and now the Boston fans can’t stand the sight of you. He already stated he don’t care what the Boston fans think with his sheer arrogance. Hope Boston hand no 20 to someone who will wear it with pride. U know you done f–ked up now don’t ya?

Let’s not be naive. If Ray is talking to the media about the Cs, it’s because HE wants to.

This is just immature ranting!!! Really?!?!
Ray basically says he is going to choose to think about the GOOD he remembers in Rondo and you criticize him?? He is choosing to not be NEGATIVE anymore about about the situation that happened with Rondo, that is the point he is stating in this sentence. Which is what most of you need to do about Ray. Stop being Negative. He made his decision and is gone.
I hope the next time you make a decision and people don’t agree with it, you just shut up and take all the criticism. Oh and don’t try to explain your reasoning either, you are NOT allowed because no matter what you say you are lying and wrong.
Ray is only defending himself against all the statements that Doc, Dooling & a lot of others have said about him over the last 3 months, since he left. I was hoping he wouldn’t respond but it was really getting ridiculous. The last statement by Dooling i guess put him over the top.
Everyone, including the Celtics organization, should have just said, Ray was good for us when he was here and even though we don’t agree with his decision, we wish him luck. But instead, people started going on tangents about all of Rays deficiencies and why he left…he wanted the ball more, Doc confirmed the Rondo fallout and on and on. Again, Ray should not have responded, even though it was 3 months later, he should have just left it alone.
Both parties are to blame and the media is making it a lot worse.

And the reason KG ‘lost’ his #??? Judas pissed all the goodwill away and turned his back on his teammates and chose the enemy. He’s getting what any turncoat deserves. It’s like working for Apple and creating great things and then going to MSFT for less pay. Get it now??? Go Cs…
