Dwyane Wade calls Rajon Rondo’s flagrant foul ‘a punk play’

(Note: If you want to read nearly 2,000 words of semi-coherent analysis on last night’s game, check my recap at MassLive.)

The Boston Celtics and Miami Heat don’t like each other. They respect each other, quite a bit, but you’ll never hear about Rajon Rondo and Chris Bosh going out to dinner after a game, and you certainly won’t hear about Kevin Garnett and LeBron James working out with each other during the offseason. The dislike only grew when Ray Allen left for South Beach. As Ken Berger of CBS noted last night, when the Heat and Celtics play, “The claws and fangs and cold shoulders are always proudly displayed.”

Several displays of those claws and fangs have belonged to Rondo and Dwyane Wade through the years. There was the time when Wade’s physical play contributed to Rondo dislocating his elbow. There was the time when Rondo told a sideline reporter the Heat whined and complained rather than getting back on defense, indirectly calling out Wade on national television. Last night, their feud of sorts continued, with Rondo fouling Wade near the neck area during the final minute of Boston’s 120-107 opening night loss.

Wade took offense to the foul, saying later that he almost responded physically before stopping himself.

“I got my kids watching so I stopped myself but it was a punk play by him,” said Wade, according to ESPN. “He clotheslined me.”

“I’m here to play basketball, man,” Wade said. “If you want to do something else, then go do something else. Boxing, this is not it. I was glad I was able to stop myself in that very moment and move on from it. We’ll see next time we play.”

“I don’t have any response to that,” Rondo said. “Everybody is entitled to their opinion. He has a voice. There’s nothing else to it.”

If you don’t want to listen to my description, Lil’ Wayne and Eminem will put it bluntly for you:

First and foremost, great banner! Awesome! Lively! Colorful! Second, Dwayne needs to just shut up. He’s always running to the media to portray himself as the victim. Just shut and play! Last but most important, I am worried the heat have only become aloooooot more stronger than the Celtics with Ray. I want to remain optimistic, but will the Celtics ever pass through the heat? Anyone?

Dwayne Wade is a great basketball player no question about it. But if you don’t stary trouble, there wil be no trouble. Miami does the same thing when they come to Chicago to play the Bull. They try to intimidate players, to make it seem as if their hard to beat. They can be “dethroned” its possible.

It’s too bad that Darko did not get a chance to play. It would have been great to see him on the floor.

What do you call that play where Rondo got dragged to the ground by Wade with Rondo’s arm being dislocated, back to front, remember that? F–king Wade, that p–k b—h can’t take his own medicine. He’s been the biggest flagrant foulers of past years and deserves what he gets. Good job Rondo. Next time I hope you guys can beat these show ponies.

Absolutely!!! The same way Miami came to Chicago and played the Bulls and literally pushed RIP to the ground. It was of course on national television, for all eyes to see, including the refs. I like Dwayne Wade because I support my own from my home city of Chicago, but I do not see “bullying” as a way to stay champs, along with being a contending team.

It was nice to see someone on the Cs show a little passion. But I’d like to see Rondo show more of that passion with his defense. We need him to bring the same intensity on the defensive end that he brings on the offensive end.

Great banner!!!! Now I am re-energized to rip on all the things I hate…like D. Wade. Used to love him but then he got ‘LeBron-ized’ and has really turned into a jerk. Hey Wade, how about the face rake of RR last playoffs that you got away with and the Heat refs blew and we lose the series? I agree with paul re RR’s defense and it was obvious the Heat targeted RR with dbl-teaming so he needs to move the ball out and then cut away. Really hate the Heat even more now. We’ll be better but last night’s effort was disappointing to say the least. Go Cs…

I give this message to my second best team: Boston Celtics: It will be difficult to see Ray Allen on the other side of enemy lines. However, the same way Michael Jordan and the Bulls had to find a way to overcome the Detroit Pistons, you have to overcome the Miami Heat. Go out on the floor and play the game as you do, with great offense, defense, and with a leader that has been named what he truly is: The Best PG in the League, Rajon Rondo. Rondo, continue to be the leader you are.Leaders are winners, winners, make history. When you look back on what got you where you are, and when you become a hall of famer, it won’t matter who didn’t like you, but who loved you as a player, and what you contributed to the game of basketball.
