Kevin Garnett tells Boston Celtics they need to be more like hyenas, is still awesome at metaphors

In his most introspective moments, and really at any other time of day, Kevin Garnett is prone to complex metaphors. He uses them, I think, in an attempt to simplify his own thoughts when relating them to everyone else. So it was little surprise when Garnett referred to a cackling animal when describing how his team needs to behave after Friday night’s loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. (Boston Herald)

“When we came in the locker room, KG spoke, and what he said is that we’ve got to go into every battle like we’re the underdogs — like we have nothing, like we’re scrapping,” said (Courtney) Lee. “He used the hyena as an example. The hyena when they go play and go for the kill, they eat in packs.

“And that’s how we’ve got to do it. We’ve got to go out there and have each other’s backs, play for each other, make the right plays and be on the same page.”

Garnett explained it further. (ESPN Boston)

“Hyenas. Running in packs means that we help each other,” he said. “Since I’ve been here, we’ve built the code on what these great organizations have been built on — and that’s history. And that’s gained not by individual, but by team. And I just spoke upon that with everybody in here, without the coaches and everybody. Just letting all the new guys know what it is to be a [Celtic], reiterating that and letting them understand the severity of putting this jersey on and everything that comes with it. I won’t go into that — it’s none of y’all business — but I had to reiterate it tonight. I thought tonight was the perfect night to do that.”

I should probably be ashamed of this, but all this hyena talk has me thinking about The Lion King. The hyenas were bad in that movie, but hakuna matata, y’all. Just call Garnett Simba. And f*#k Scar.

New team. Gonna take some time to gel. One thing that does concern is the lack of height and inside presence. Did they not learn anything from last year with the rebounding issue? Pack of hyenas. I like it. Got to say something to get this pack attacking. KG is awesome.
